Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

Is one better than the other? I'm liking this particular intake which is a short ram intake mainly because its almost $200 less than the Cold Air Intakes. Are they that different?

AEM Short Ram Induction Air Intake System Blue 97 01 Honda Prelude Base and Type SH

EDIT: Sorry guys, I just saw the sticky. MOD if you could delete this thread anytime that'd be great

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

Dude, stay with OEM intake unless you want to spend like $150-350 on an intake that will change your horsepower -2 to maybe 2 horsepower lol

Lol yea I guess...kinda matches the color scheme I'm after and looks better overall lol. So what are the best fairly cheap power mods? I plan to do an exhaust but nothing super expensive so all suggestions are much appreciated

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

If you want power it is expensive. Hytech replica header will run you about $400 or so and they gain about 10whp.

Ok. Apexi seems to be the best exhaust I've heard but like I said, price.

If you're referring to the short ram vs. cold air have you ever heard of reading? Notice the edit I made on the original post. Go blow smoke somewhere else thanks.

I also like how you joined probably a week or two before me and have seen 876442985359 topics on this. Funny guy

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

If you want more power (which isn't noticeable from this upgrade), just drop in a K&N filter. Looking for that induction sound? Remove your resonator. Problem solve, money saved, lol.

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

cold air intake is a great way to get horsepower...and also a way to make your car sound mean.
cold air intake takes the air at the bottom of the wheel well, the short ram just stays in the bay. If you are in Cali you need a CARB approved intake to be legal, if you are somewhere where it doesnt matter, just buy a no-name intake and buy a K&N air filter for it. Thats the best bang for the buck.

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

I run a CAI. Between the 2 u will make more power with CAI over SRI bc SRI's suck in warm/hot air n therefor make themselves counter productive. SRI's will/can make more power IF u can keep the heat away from them tho bc its a shorter travel distance. But as previously stated the stock airbox is very well rounded and makes gfood power with a K&N filter. If ur lookin for cheap ponies start deleting stuff. AC, PS, etc. Gains will be minimal but theyre free. They will free up some of the power lost by parasitic drag IE the force (minimal) that the motor uses to turn the PS/AC pullies is no longer required and there for produces some gains. Also for exhaust its personal preference. I just bought a vibrant muffler and I LOVE it. I'm running full 3" exhaust (which h22's love) and its not loud. Sounds awesome. Anywho long story short the motto around here is like this. Cheap, reliable, Fast....U can only have 2. Choose wisely lol. Welcome to the forum and hoped this helped a little.

Yes, I have, because I'm looking into it myself, and there is a thing called search at the top, you want intake, buy a JDM type s intake and remove the resinator or buy an AEM v2, problem solved.

this guy possesses teh knowledge!

just kidding.

there are dyno charts proving the type-s intake is better than any aftermarket intake, so no, don't just buy a no-name intake and a K&N filter.

Thank you that was mucho helpful. Full 3" exhaust huh? I was thinking 2.5 but if 3s are sweet i'll probably go with that.

Thanks again

That'd be great!

I can't seem to find a full 3" exhaust anywhere tho. Biggest pipe diameter I can find is 2.5. The tips are obviously plenty big, but can't seem to find any 3" pipes. Almost all of them are 60mm (little less than 2.5") and some are 60-70 (about 65 is 2.5"). I'd need to find a 70-80mm pipe exhaust and can't find any at all. Been to andysauto, horsepowerfreaks, etc. etc. Can't find any 3" pipes. Even went to manufacturer websites.

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

Kteller.com for a full 3" piping kit. Includes hangers. 250 shipped. And I'm running a universal stainless vibrant Street Performance muffler. Sounds amazing. Vibrant performance.com 110 shipped IIRC My exhaust looks stock. I also bought a vibrant 3" Hi flow cat (100) bc test pipes arent legal in PA lol. For all my piping tho it ran me about 500ish. Had to buy some stuff to make it work with my header (2.5" collector so had to buy a step up pipe). Plus my hytech rep so all in all it was 800 total giver or take. Plus s300. I spent 1600 total lol. That outta hold me for now lol

Had to buy some stuff to make it work with my header (2.5" collector so had to buy a step up pipe). Plus my hytech rep so all in all it was 800 total giver or take. Plus s300. I spent 1600 total lol. That outta hold me for now lol
Damn...wow lol. So i wouldn't be able to buy a whole system? I'd have to buy the pipe kit

Mandrel Exhaust Piping Kits - KTeller
Aluminized or stainless steel? I was thinking SS

and then select a muffler and tip? And obviously might want bigger headers and such but yea.

Re: Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake?

Just a little tip, For my cai I used one of the old vacuum lines to line the hole so as not to scratch the intake.
