Re: oil in spark plug shafts.. how screwd am i?

its super easy to do. remove the plugs, hoses, and nuts that are on the valve cover. pull the old gasket and plug o-rings and clean the head, there will be old rtv to clean in the corners...put a small amount of rtv on all corners(left and right) where the cams are...there are tabs like things on the vc gasket where you will want the rtv to be...replace vc gasket and o-rings and put the cover back on. there is a tightening sequence for the nuts, iirc tighten the middle first, then the back right, bottom right, back left, bottom left, then far right, then far left. dont tighten the hell out of them because they can strip pretty easy. put hoses back on, then the plugs and thats it...

the helms will have the order to tighten in, just check it in case im wrong...

If you still find oil afterwards, don't panic, either. H-series over 150,000 miles will let a little oil past the valve seals, even at rest. That's why you often see them emitting a puff of black smoke on start-up. As long as the plug doesn't look like it's bathing in oil, and your oil consumption between changes is reasonable, you're OK.
