engine has a tick to it

I got a 99 lude and the engine has a slight tick to it. I t sounds like its coming from the valve cover. My dad said it might be a valve spring that might need an adjustment. Any thoughts on what it might be? And a minor or major problem?

Re: engine has a tick to it

Ya, I think all Honda motors use solid lifters so the valves need to be adjusted every 30-50k miles depending on what your owners manual tells you. I don't think it's a really huge deal to get them adjusted right away the valves just started getting loud but it don't put it off too long. I think I paid like $85 or whatever an hour of shop time would be, and it is very important that the engine is cold when the adjustment is done (I'd let it sit overnight).

Maybe with a valve lash adjustment. Meaning to make sure the valves have proper clearance. Mine sounded much better after I did an adjustment. Oh and this is for those who can't search.
