Throwout Bearing issues?

Well I just install my H23a vtec a week ago with a brand new F1 racing stage II clutch and 8.5 pounds light weight flywheel. Everything went well until I tried to test the power of the motor to notice a difference in the swap. I heard a funny noise coming from the tranny, the first thing that came to my head was that I broke something bad I thought that maybe it was the slave cylinder so I replaced it bleed it and noise went away.. I took it for a test drive and it drove good until I heard the noise once again The next day I pulled the tranny off and the throwout bearing was loose but not off. could anyone tell me is there a certain way to install the throwout bearing so that it won't come off or do it just slide on?

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

ut oh. there's 2 tabs on the TOB that you hafta slide the shift fork in between the bearing and these two tabs, so when you push the fork left/right, the bearing slides with it as well in and out. its kinda hard to describe in words, but you'll understand once you see it.

it sounds like you didn't mate the fork to the bearing right.

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

I'm having the same issue. I hear a a high speed chirping noise when ever the clutch pedal is not pushed in. Sounds just like a cricket. I only notice it when I'm not moving, the engine most likely overpowers it when I'm driving. It's the most annoying when I'm in the garage. If barely push on the pedal the chirp goes away. It just started making the noise ever since I got my new clutch installed. It even came with a new throwout bearing. I don't know if the mechanic didn't grease it correctly or what. Is there anyway to fix this without spending another $500 to take off the tranny? I'm pretty pissed about this. =/

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

i swaped a clutch master stage 2 clutch in my 95 prelude with a new throw out bearing it did the same thing for awhile ive put about 1000miles on it and it stoped i do know that the throw out bearings come prelube so theres no problem there i think its a wear in problem and the quality of the part, the reason being i just replaced my h22a1 with a h22a along with a f1 stage 1 clutch and a new throw out bearing that i didnt lube and its amazing i like it 100 times better than my cluthmaster stage 2 clutch. but the sqeek noise is deffently the throw out bearing it if you only hear in when the clutch pedal is released thats the only time the bearing is turning if you still hear it when the clutch pedal is pressed IN then you have other problems possible wrong alignment with the bearing

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

Well that's somewhat of a relief Langley. I got a competition clutch stage 2 installed that came with a new bearing. Lets hope the noise goes away for me too. If it doesn't go away within the next couple months I'll pay to have to have it fixed. I'm OCD when it comes to my car. =P

How long or how many miles would you say you had the chirp for? I just started noticing it for about a week now. Clutch was installed about a month ago.

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

I found out it was the flywheel that was loose that was making the rattle noise. I had a good friend of mine to put it on when I was a work but he didn't get a torque ranch to tighten it lol...

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

well all clutches have a wear in period some are manufacturer specific i drove mine for about a thousand miles before i started lauching it but the squeek started to go away shortly after that i would say about 1300 miles but i dont want to get your hopes up lol its just what happened to mine but i do know for a fact that the squeek is the throw out bearing so it wont cost to much if your pulling the trans yourself.

yeah a fly wheel will make that noise also i work at tuscaloosa chevrolet in alabama the flywheel on our cars start to crack around the bolts sounds just like the engine is knocking so if any body is hearing a knocking problem i would check that first just to be safe but ive never heard of this happening to a honda dont think they generate enough torque : )

Re: Throwout Bearing issues?

Go on youtube and there are plenty of video showing how to change a clutch and also how to take the tranny off. It took me around 3 to 4 hours todo mine by myself... I used 2 jacks to help me out with the tranny....

You shouldn't have to spend money to have your mechanic fix a problem that was caused by him not doing the job properly.

If you're unhappy with the job someone did that you paid for, stick up for yourself and bitch! Get angry, start yelling, its YOUR money!
