Its a 2000 Honda Prelude h22a with VTEC.
Base Model I believe.
It'll be my first car.
My dad works with the owner, brings the car over every weekend, runs great.
Originally bought new by the guy's sister and then was given to him, now he's selling it to me.
Its the automatic with tiptronic and one small chip in paint on the front bumper.
It has 80k miles on it.
He's asking for 3,500 but will settle for 3. Still have tax and tittle to do.

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

By the way, thats my little step brother in the picture, and the owner changes the oil religiously and it has new tires on it and whatnot, washed and waxed every other week because its not driven alot.

Plans for the near future include 17 inch tires, intake, exhaust, colored oil cap, radiator hose, spark plug wires, flip up head unit, and one 10 inch sub. Potentially exhaust, but I'll see, depending on my job situation, minimum wage doesnt mean **** when you have to pay for car insurance.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a automatic lol.. Automatics on preludes suck as* really bad... Great looking car for the price but being its a auto sucks...

Yeah, I know, this is my first car though, it has potential, I just need something I can put money into, look nice, go decently fast, get me to college, and bring me to work.

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

That's not a bad deal. By getting from someone you already know - you've got the past lifetime of maintenance records right there a phone call away.

From your pictures - it looks like the front drivers side wheel sits back a little farther in the wheel well than it should. Double check on that, maybe it's just the picture. - if it does in fact sit back further than you need that checked out asap.

As far as the transmission goes, you may want to consider collecting parts for a 5spd transmission swap before diving into audio and exterior modifications. That transmission is known to fail and you'll want to be prepared for when it does.

Either way - it looks solid, i'd buy it for that price and mileage without a second thought. auto or not long as it was well maintained.

If you do buy it, make sure the rubber strips in the rear wheel well are removed the day you bring it home - that will help slow the common honda rust in the quarter panel.

For the mileage and price, its a banger of a deal.
It looks nice, and wasn't modded or anything, so i'm assuming it wasn't beat on.

However, they're called autotragic for a reason.

I think its because he turned to park because my dad lives in the corner townhouse and there is like a median in the center and my dad's vette was out of the spot so he had to turn in. And for the transmission. I know a little here and there about engines, but how much would I be looking for to do the whole swap, garage cost, parts, everything roughly?

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

You can get the parts and pay a shop to do it for around $2,000 - this mainly revolves around how cheap you're able to get the parts for.

Part-out threads have plenty of shifters/cables and clutch assembly's that you can pick up for cheap.

Like I said though - it's just something to consider if you're going to dump any money at all into modifications, collect these parts first knowing what can happen at any time. For all we know - the auto could last another 2 years long as you're not sports shifting and driving normal.

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

Looks very clean and there's almost nothing better then buying a used car off someone you trust. I'd scoop it for that price. Don't bother modding it until you've collected and saved enough to get ready for that swap. I'd drive auto for now though since you might as well ride it out.

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

So can I just upgrade the auto trans and get 5th gear and mount a clutch cylinder or is it a totally different transmission, and does the sport shifting or tiptronic make it go out sooner? it would take a month and a half for me to save for a 1,500. I would need a parts list and I heard there is the better of the two different standard transmissions that go in them?

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

Don't use tiptronic. That'll just kill it faster. I'm sure your auto transmission will last longer then 2 months. Just don't rev the thing or do crazy stunts.

I asked the owner about it, he said he's never had any kind of trouble with it at all, but he knows what I'm talking about. He uses tiptronic and says it shifts smoother with the tiptronic than it does on its own in automatic mode.

Re: Need an opinion on the buy. 2000 Silver

I guess now I just have to find a way to come up with 3 grand for this swap. ;l
The only way I can see this happening is if in August I get my grant for school and used the left over 1,500 and combine it with my savings, but I don't know how I would manage to buy that kind of stuff in my town because there are only about 5 ludes that I've seen around. How would I even go about buying just a transmission, or the clutch cylinder or anything of that nature.
