Weak vtec,loss in power.need help

I,ve searched enough to the point of posting a thread about.i did a swap in summer h22a into my 97 prelude, after the swap the vtec was acting up and i had loss in power.the vtec would kick in i can hear it scream but there was no power while in vtec,so the oil pressure is not the issue. i was advised that i needed a tune so i did, the tuner said that i was throwing a code, CYP, crank sensor.so i just replaced the crank sensor, reset the ECU and still the same thing, no power while in vtec.i dont know what to look at next.any help is appriciated. thanks

Maybe the motor is OBDI and your car is OBDII? In that case you would have to convert to OBDI. I just pulled that out of my ass, but hey I'm tryin to help. Free bump.

Did the code reappear after you replaced the crank sensor and reset the ecu?

I had a obd2 motor that i took out and replaced with a obd1 motor, the mechanic said he had to buy a few extra parts to make it work. something to think about

Yeah hopefully you're not paying for tunes on an OBDII ECU, as they change back to stock with time.

my car is obd2 but i have a obd1 ecu with the conversion harness and i think thats supose to work just fine with obd2 car.

i replaced the sensor 2 days ago and have not seen the cel yet, sometimes it takes a whole week for a code to appear.

1998balckprelude: do you happen to know what those parts were that your machanic had to add?

cyp sensor is in the distributor.
ckp sensor is at the crank on obd2.

h22a jdm??? if so you will have to rewire an h23 distributor in to make the motor run properly. i have a thread that i created obd 2 to obd 1 distributor swapping. should be in resource thread. i am 99% sure that is your problm.

Bustr: thanks, the tuner told me that it was the crank sensor that was bad cuz he checked the distributor and didnt see anything wrong with it.

When you did the swap did you change you oil pump from the jdm motor to a usdm obd2 oil pump? Are you using an usdm external coil dizzy or jdm internal coil dizzy. Gotta match oil pump with dizzy. Just a starting point If you haven't done that already.
