Oxygen Sensor Issue...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I cant for the life of me find any concrete information on this issue of mine.
Cliff notes and bottom of post.

First let me start off by saying hello and thanks for having me in this forum. I purchased this 5th Generation Prelude for my sister. My first post on this forum was me asking if it was worth it. I decided this would be a great car for her, not only will it be a gas saver but its a Honda, I understand the transmission issue and am willing to live with that, I will of course try to find a transmission that will be durable and fit this car in the future.

Problems I've had to fix: Replace rear Calipers, rotors all around and pads. These brakes hadn't been changed in probably 5 years. I had to change the exhaust, it was straight pipe and the muffler said "Silverline". I replaced that with a magnaflow cat, and OEM B-pipe and muffler.

I replaced the Oxygen sensor and realized that the person who had the car before me cut the wires to the secondary (o2 sensor that goes on the cat) because he was running a test pipe. What I've found out about this issue is that a lot of people splice the wires and say something that its not the same because one wire has a ground insulation and wont send a pulsating signal. So does this mean I have to change the WHOLE harness? Does the oxygen sensor plug end to another plug near the ECU or main harness? What do you all suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Cliffs Notes (for those with little patience):
Plug where the new Oxygen sensor plugs is is spliced, What can I do? Splice and connect wire directly from plug to harness? Does the plug to ECU have a connector where I can replace just that connection, or do I have to replace the Main harness?

Re: Oxygen Sensor Issue...

Where is it cut?

The o2 sensor wires run from the o2 to a connector, and from the connector back to wherever the hell it goes. Haven't really bothered to look.

If its cut before the connector, just replace the o2 sensor. If its cut after, you'll need to repair the wires. Try soldering. Or you can replace the section of damaged wire.

Re: Oxygen Sensor Issue...

Its cut before the connector.
The thing is, I've read that one of the wires has some sort of grounded insulation, and if that is cut and interrupted it causes the ECU to think there is something wrong with the spark plug, thanks for your input though. Hopefully someone has some experience with this.

Haha....no....no.

Replace the o2 sensor and clear the codes. And tell whoever told you that they're an idiot.

Good luck.

Re: Oxygen Sensor Issue...

yeah...or you can just buy a new one...

Depends on how cheap you are.

FYI...to clear codes, go into your underhood fuse box and pull the 7.5a clock radio fuse for 10 seconds.

Not sure if this would work but try checking and see if CEL works turn key to position 2 and see if it comes on for a few seconds and then when it got off. With regards to the harness hope that the female plug was not cut as well so you can still fix it but if not you have to replace it with a new one..Basically the O2 sensor is very important in terms of how the car runs and it also helps with regards to the mileage. Hope this little shared knowledge help you.,,,

Re: Oxygen Sensor Issue...

Thanks everyone again for sharing your experience and knowledge regarding this problem. I did do like HavikPrelude suggested and just replaced it. I spliced everything and used a butt connector and connected the wires. It has been almost a year with no problems or Cel Codes coming on for this at all.

Thanks for the suggestion as well Brandonmillsap!
