N00b questions...

Hey everyone this is my first post besides the hey im a new member and i've got a few questions. Just sold my ford ranger prerunner and picked up a 5-speed 2000 Type sh prelude and im lovin' it! Here's a pic...

SO...im looking to paint it white, and get these rims: (will they fit, i'd keep the stock 16 size)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ung/6546-1.jpg

kinda have that white, and very subtly, orange theme cause it goes with my favorite guitar amp company i play with, points for knowing .

match it up with these orange honda emblems:

what you think??

anyways besides opinons my other question is when i bought the prelude they had a non-stock shift knob and the piece to hold the shift boot up was lost... :frown:

Also plan to do alot of interior lighting work too so ill post when i do

So will the rims fit on my car? think that white and orange is unique and good combo? and where or how to hold up shift boot??? thanks again everyone, when the time comes ill put in any helpful info in for interior electronics wiring, i do work on guitar and etc semi-frequently so i know a little lol. :canabis:

Re: N00b questions...

As far as your shift boot goes, you could do the following:

remove the center console, remove the silver ring the boot has right now and in the exact same way the current ring is on there - put a zip tie in place. Or you could just order a new ring /boot off ebay...

Only trick to the zip tie one - you have to kinda do it while the boot is on the shifter, and tie it from underneath. This means you'll be tilting the entire console up and kinda working under it rather than removing it completely.

Re: N00b questions...

hmm interesting, about the zip tie, but i think i wanna go as legit as i can.

You sure that shift boot adapter works too? imma about to buy one :)

oh yea im thinking about not doing orange and just go red, but not alot, just enough to accent it in certain ways. plus it can match the rasta better

Re: N00b questions...

Correct me If i'm wrong, i may have to look for my old shifter to verify if nobody else can.

But our stock shifters are just straight without any diameter enlargement for a ring to sit. So either way for a new boot ring to work - you would have to put a wire tie or large amount of tape or something to keep the boot from sliding down.

Again i'm not 100% sure on this - But I can check if it's really a concern.

yes please if it's not too much hassle

Re: N00b questions...

This is what the stock shifter looks like when removed. Unless the ring is tall enough to not slide down over and past the little bend - you will need to put something on the shifter to stop the boot from sliding all the way down. This is most likely going to be the case. My after-market shifter has an increase in diameter about 1" below the shift knob to stop the ring from sliding down.

Re: N00b questions...

hmmm ok thanks ill see what i can do, so basically i need to zip tie UNDERNEATH the boot to help keep it up?

my friend bought me this shift boot the other day:
JDM Civic EK9 Type R CTR Red Stitch Shift Boot

so i'll probably start it next week i guess, thanks again for the input

Re: N00b questions...

We can't tell you if those wheels will fit if you don't give us a lug pattern [you're looking for 5x114.3] and a size. Honestly, you'll be happier if you buy a pair of 17's.

CccpChaz 03-16-2011 06:05 PM

Re: N00b questions...

yea ive actually decided on not going for the white and orange and instead the white and red. how did you know that lug pattern? is that just for 5th gens what it is?

as for the 17's it'll just look better too? is gas mileage affected at all by that either?

thanks sorry for derp questions
