Re: opinions please!

It is a little to high of a price, I am betting he is getting rid of it because the leak is either the front or rear main seal, both very hard to get to. The intake cleaning he is talking about is probably the EGR port cleaning, takes about 1 to 2 hours and costs like $20 if you do it yourself, I would see if he had the timing belt done or not, because that is a $700 job. If it is the rear main seal leaking its like $10 for the new seal and a lot of time or money for the labor and you may as well get a new clutch and flywheel in there. If it is the front its about the same price and you may as well change the timing belt. Other places it could be leaking vtec solenoid gasket (hopefully its easy to get to), cam seal, distributor o ring, oil filter gasket. If you could get it for $2,800 or so I would say its probably a good deal, do a compression test though.

Re: opinions please!

i paid 3k for a 92...i think this car is in better shape than mine was.

im pretty sure an intake would not throw a CEL.
have you called George and talked to him about the car, because if its not very from from where you live, he may let you test drive it. and if he does, take it to autozone and they will check the CEL fo FREE.

besides asking about the timing belt, ask if the water pump was replaced too. i think they need to be changed every 110k miles or so.

the oil leak could be anywhere. ask him how many quarts he needs to put in it between oil changes.

a slavage title sucks, but theres ways to get around it. how? i have no idea

Re: opinions please!

Hey xxxredline ,like was said by the other here ,you need to make a check list things that would have to be replace with new parts, labor involve ,timing belt water pump, tune up oil changes, fluids .thermostat .just to name a few ,because if this things weren't done that's a red flag like check engine light, hope you get good idea bro, good luck, need more info just hit me back.

Re: opinions please!

walk away man, there's no such thing as a salvage title because of an auction, salvage titles only come on cars that have been wrecked and have been "fixed" ...a rebuilt title would be better than a salvage title. if he's lying about that i would expect he was lying about something else too. i'd be really careful about that, if you are still thinkin about buying it at least get the VIN and do a carfax on it. that will show you why it has a salvage title. it was probably an insurance claim wreck that got fixed and went to auction

I'm in no way just gonna jump the gun on this local lude. I was thinking it was the rear main seal also, i just replaced the head on my 4th gen so I know he's fibbing about the intake spawning a cel. Anyways thanx for the input and I will have many more to show you guys before I actually make a purchase.

Actually I think if it was stolen then recovered by the Insurance agency and put into an auction then it would get a salvage title, because the car was salvaged from someone who stole it (not salvaged from a wreck) I could be wrong though.

I think he is talking about the EGR ports that are in the intake manifold that would throw a CEL.

And it may not be the rear man seal, just look where there is oil residue on the car, if it is around the bottom of the transmission then it is the rear main seal. Could be lots of other seals also.

Re: opinions please!

No.

1.The Guy didn't even bother getting the engine bay detailed.
2.Dents
3.A whole line of fluid on the street where there isn't anywhere else
(looks like he pulled the car forward to take a pic of the back so that's from the engine somewhere)
4.Salvage (probably got it for 4000, and wants a great return on the investment)
5.EL gauges?
6.Dangly wire. I hate that 5hit!

SERVICE RECORDS OR GTFO

Re: opinions please!

^^ AGREED!!!

All i have to say is. Dont rush into buying a car. Esp one that has been modded unless you know the person selling it. Buying an already modded car = Money pit TRAP! UNLESS, this person is respectfully vouched by many others. But This one is overly priced for its miles and exterior condition. No way i would buy this one for 3k, maybe and just MAYBE i would do $2500 if i was desperate.

Re: opinions please!

I agree wouldn't pay 3k for this slightly mod prelude. 2,500 would be a great price for it..
