SH rims polished

Im about to start my project on my SH rims and polishing them. I have yet to find a set on the internet that have been polished though. Only thing im lacking is some paint stripper but I have all my sand paper ranging from 150-2000 grit. should be a fun long weekend when I decide to start. Is there anyone that has seen any SH rims completly polished????? if so link me

Re: SH rims polished

should look good when done. I did a set of wheels on my 2005 Yamaha R1 and it took forever. You have 4 wheels to do. Make sure to keep them clean once done.

Re: SH rims polished

ok good glad to know it looks good before going threw all the trouble. I dont really have the money to buy new rims like I want to with buying a house right now so I figured this is the next best thing to try. It will also give me something to do for a while

don't start at 150. seems wayyyy too course. if you're using paintstripper I'd start closer to 800

Re: SH rims polished

I would use aircraft stripper then start sanding with 800 grit. Me and a homie polished my accord rims and turned out like this.

Re: SH rims polished

Its not too bad. Hardest part would probably be sanding those ridges on the face of each spoke. Take a picture of your first finished rim. I'm curious. Goodluck!

Re: SH rims polished

I wouldn't start as low as 150, but I wouldn't start as high as 800. Maybe 400 or 600. I know it's extra steps and it will take longer, but it'll be worth it.

only reason i was going to start that low was some minor curve marks from the previous owner. I figured i could get them almost gone using that but mostly was going to start around the 400 range like you stated. I got 30 sheets of sand paper to start out but im sure i will go threw it quick

I polish just the strip around the wheels of my dads car and i started with about 400 and worked my way up. All i did was a strip and it took for ever, so good luck, looking forward to see some pictures.

Re: SH rims polished

You will definately want to wet sand the whole time. Aluminum, being as soft has it is gets stuck in sand paper really easy which not only requires you toss it out for a new sheet, but can actually leave marks in your finish. You will want to get some polished aluminum compound. It will remove the oxidization really well. The work isn't just in the prep but the up keep as well. Should look good though.good luck!

Re: SH rims polished

well I hate to be like dude I stole your idea and now I'm already started but yeah I did and here is the results so far, I'm down to 320 sandpaper, the texture under the paint was much more course than I was expecting, I did use my dremel with a 180 sanding flap wheel and i'm going to go strait to 800 on Thursday (my next day off) and i'll add more pics, I had some one tell me to try the mothers polishing cone and some cutting compound after I get it pass the 800. Here is some pics of the progectWheels in pregress

yeah I never thought the rims would be so rough, so after sanding for 6hrs and not even being half way done I gave up and just painted them black. All the sanding did make the paint look a whole lot better thought lmao. props on you going threw the polish stage

Re: SH rims polished

Hi.....I know this is an old thread however I did polished my prelude sh wheels this past weekend and they look very good. Let me start by saying that is gonna be very time consuming and you are gonna need a few weekends to finish it unless you have plenty of time in your hands don't do it because is gonna be very challenging. I started with 180 grid all the way up to 2000 grid and then polished it with mothers aluminum polish cream. The end result you be the judge when you look at the pictures.

Re: SH rims polished

So yeah I think they came out pretty good. It took a lot of elbow grease lol but in the end it was worth it...I can't emphasize this enough if you don't have the time nor the patience don't even start. You might as well just paint them or plasti dip them. Later.

that included paint and masking time mike, but I had a LOT of time in the sanding/polishing stage, about half.
