First Car!

I just recently bought a 2000 Honda Prelude with AT for 3500.

It has 179,831 miles, but it seems to run just fine so far. I don't want to get raked over the coals by a mechanic, so I would like to know about what kind of preventative maintenance I should have done on it to keep it running strong well into over 200,000 miles.

Anything I can do/pay to get done to restore it's engine to full or close to full HP. It seems to be a little sluggish compared to my friends prelude. And they are both the same.

Thanks in advance for anything. I know a manual swap will probably come up, but I'd like to stick with the Auto til I can actually find a manual in decent condition in my area.

Re: First Car!

basic tuneup:

change all the fluids (engine, tranny, breaks, clutch, cooling) and filters (air, oil).
change distributor, rotor, spark plugs (maybe a NGK plug and wire kit?).
run engine/system cleaning fluid through the engine to get rid of some of the carbon buildup and crap in the fuel system.

Then maybe clean out the the EGR system, intake, throttle body etc.

Check for CEL codes to see if there's any problems with the engine.

Also, I hope you find a gearbox for grownups in good condition soon :)

Re: First Car!

What he said

as for urs feeling a lil sluggish the auto is just gonna be slower than a manual. Theres a dyno around here somewhere where a guy did a swap. The difference is staggering.

If you are planning on getting a dif lude later id say just do the maintenance on it and wait till you find one you want to keep before doing any mods

also where are ya, depending on location someone here might be able to help u find a good standard.... For the most part people around here are helpful (when they arent screaming search)

also inb4 "she needs a lip and a drop"

Ul see what i mean in a bit

Re: First Car!

Let's see some pics!
definitely check maintenance records and see what's been done and what you still need to do.
Hope you find a good 5 speed ASAP!

Re: First Car!

Has anything been done to it yet? Obviously you should make sure its running good first, but definitely try to get a tranny swap if you can as these guys are saying ^^^
