Trunk Leak

Hey PZ, So I have had this trunk leak for some time now been trying to find the source failed every time. I took the lining off the trunk and I found this hole with a little rust around it could this be where the water is getting in? Or should there even be a hole there? Fill it? Thanks in advance.

Re: Trunk Leak

yeah clean your taillight gaskets or get new ones. pull the carpet back and the plastic that covers the latch. you will see 6-8 nuts(cant remember off the top of my head)holding the taillight in, remove those, unclip the bulbs and pull the light out. there will be a gasket behind them which gets NASTY. clean it or replace and you should be set. there are also two black p[lugs you can pop out in the trunk floor near the spare, so if water is standing it will drain. here is a video showing some tips to help.

Re: Trunk Leak

Could be the moonroof or the trunk seal or the trim/seal in the small back window. Does anyone know how the small window in the back is held? For some reason mine isn't in all the way and water gets in! lol

Re: Trunk Leak

No... I looked into the back window already and had it replaced and resealed. I sure it has to be coming in some where in that area in the picture. What about where the two pieces of metal come together?

Re: Trunk Leak

When I first got the car I had the same issues. I replaced the tail light gasket and checked the moonroof for any worn on the rubber of the window. Everything was good!!! I even had the hoses leadin from the moonroof to the back under the bumper and i still had the leak. My last resort was to remove those 2 rubber plugs under the spare and since then no puddles building up. I did buy a thin flexable rubber maat from Home Depot and lined it under the spare and reg glued it around so if any water led to the trunk that instead of it sittin in my trunk to rust that it would lead to those 2 holes and run right out of the car!!! been good since then!!!

Definitely! make sure the drain plugs for the sunroof are not clogged, or have not come loose. They are located back by the antenna on the passenger side, and respectively the same on the drivers side.

Re: Trunk Leak

So I took out the back seats to see if there was any water sitting under the seats, no water but I did find this. Is this something that must or should be fixed?

I don't think that's much to worry about as long as you fix your leak so that water doesn't keep accumulating down thier!
