Prelude Electronics Screwed...

Today. I autostarted my car, went in it. Gauges didn't work. My tacho was sitting at 0 and when I started to drive it was sitting at 0km/h. Then I noticed my clock wasn't working as well. Tried to lower my window but that didn't work either. Nor did my sunroof. I opened my door while the car was on and it gave a beeping like the key was left in even though the car was on. My left and right signals don't work either but when I put my hazard lights on it flashes fine.

I'm assuming it's a blown fuse but I checked all the ones under my hood and they seemed to look ok. I checked some in the car and they looked good but didn't take a look at them all. Did anyone have this problem before and does anyone know specifically which fuse it is or what's the problem? Could it be a cable? If I can't find out what's wrong I'll probably bring it to my mechanic tomorrow.

Do you have a electrical tester to check the fuses?

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

Yes I have a multimeter. I can use that to test it out. Just figured someone would have had this problem before.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

sounds like it could be an ignition switch problem to me...weird though that the car runs, but since you'll be checking fuses anyway, make sure and check your big 50 amp ignition switch fuse in ur under the hood box

I checked the 50w and that was fine. Weird how the ignition would have anything to do with the passenger and driver windows.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

well i just meant that it sounded like none of the car's accessories were working, just like if u tried to roll ur power window down without the key turned on and ur gauges wouldn't have power either until ur key was on so i dunno it was just a thought. hope that u can figure out whats going on...probably just something little thats affecting everything lol, do ur lights come on in ur dash when u turn the key on?

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

i see u said u autostarted it...i wonder if something could be going wrong with either the chip in ur key or maybe something wrong with the remote start? because there has to be a bypass on ur car for it to have remote start because of the chip in ur key

Only some of the lights on my dash goes on. Like my seatbelt light. The other ones like my DRL or ATTS, CEL don't go on.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

It won't be the immobilizer because that only keeps the car from starting.

You have a really interesting problem.... the things you are describing are on different ignition circuits. Some, like the blinker and windows are the ignition circuit which HAS to be powered up in order for the engine to run. The radio and clock are the accessory circuit. Makes no sense.

Does it work right when you don't remote start, as in the key in the ignition.

Sounds like a dumb question but you are putting the key in the ignition and turning to On before driving correct?

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

Nothing will work even if I don't start the car. It just doesn't work at all, even if I don't autostart it. I have a Viper 5901 Autostarter and Alarm. Not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. Was working fine this morning when I left my house. I recently wired up my reverse camera to my double din. My stereo still works fine. Not sure if that effected anything.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

That's really weird man. Have you checked all fuses with your meter. Turning ignition on and make sure you have proper voltage on each side of each fuse?

i wonder if it's something where the different circuits are somehow shorting each other out, like some insulation has been worn on off somewhere or something?

I found the fuse. It was the cruise control, lol. Weird how the Meter (Cruise Control) fuse would make all that including the rear defrost not work.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

Could be a short to power. Generally when you have a crazy ass electrical problem that makes no logical sense whatsoever, it is a short to power.

Heard a story about some guys van, that when the car was shut off (no key in it, completely shut off, and him no where near it) randomly, it would swish the wiper blades. Just once, then stop. At intermittent times, several hours apart, with no apparent pattern or regular interval....just randomly.

That kinda stuff is usually a short to power.

However, the recent electrical modifications you made would be the place to start looking. Generally, when something was working fine, then you mess with it, and now it doesn't work fine...it is something you did.

EDIT: Didn't see that you fixed it. But the C/C fuse makes sense. It's actually hooked into many different circuits, if you look at the diagram.

Re: Prelude Electronics Screwed...

It probably is a loss of power or something because my subwoofer was blasting (friend was playing with it) and I didn't turn it down. So when I autostarted my car the sub was still blasting.
