New Motor

so im about to order a semi new motor for the lude, h22a obd2 motor. It will have around 35-45k miles on it when I get it and just wondering if there is anything that you normaly wouldnt think about to ask the seller. He is a well respected dealer on ebay with a huge warehouse of honda motors. Ive already asked about compression test, leaks, oil, damage and simple stuff like that, but that is about all i know to ask. Its the whole motor minus the trans so it should just be a straight swap from what I can see. He is waiting for the motor to come in due to him selling the last one before I could buy it so I havent looked at it yet. The price range, $1,250 most likely with shipping

This will be my first time buying a motor so just wanted to play it safe

Re: New Motor

just make sure that when you get it to look everything over really good. I got a f23a motor for my accord a while back from LKQ and they told me everything was good on it, but I found a small crack in the block before installing it and they sent me another one with 20k less miles for the same price. so just look it over really good

Re: New Motor

Personally, I don't trust $1000 motors.

Look over everything very carefully, look for obvious or suspicious damage or leaks and ask about them, and before it goes in the car replace the timing belt, dizzy cap & rotor, spark plugs & wires.

Re: New Motor

Damn dude, are you seriously gonna spend that much on just a motor? I have an OBD2 H22A1 in my garage that needs a few odds and ends that I'm trying to sell for $500 + shipping. It's got more mileage on it than the motor you're looking at, but hey, it's a Honda, they run forever. Lemme know if you're interested.

Re: New Motor

thanks for the replys, I dont think a motor thats $1,200 is realy bad. I know there is better motors out there but anything is better than what I got now. It will cost me about the same in repairs to fix my current motor so im just gone part it out. Ill be sure to get all info I can on motor before he ships it to me. Ill keep yall updated and have pics later on

Re: New Motor

u guys are naming out some expensive prices, i bought my jdm h22a black top with about 40k for $600, some lude owner thought his engine was gone so he bought it for 1200, then realized it was his tranny so he sold it to me for 600.

Engine is mint, burns no oil and pulls. Except now the cel is on for EGR valve =(

Re: New Motor

Of course buying it 2nd hand from someone else trying to get rid of it is going to be cheaper than retail. Hmotorsonline, a reputable honda engine dealer that guarantees all sensors working, is selling a obd2 H22a with avg of 45k for 1300 + s&h. $1250 shipped is a good deal if the seller will give you start up + sensor warranty.

These engines are stacked in containers from japan so some stuff might get crushed in transit and incidentals add up especially when you should already be thinking of doing the 90k maintenance when you get it (water pump, timing belt, plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, etc).

Re: New Motor

I would think about that motor for $1,500 with trans as being auto? because I have an auto prelude. The motor im looking at on ebay has a waranty on it and they back their motors up 100%, compression tested vids with motor as well. Anyone out there that has a good motor PM me and we can talk. I also will have a motor for parts if anyone needs certain parts off a h22a obd2 motor just PM me

Re: New Motor

There's really not that much fooling. To be ready to go it needs an ECT sensor and the nut that holds the alternator pulley on. Oh wait it doesn't have a PS pump or A/C condenser either. lol

Re: New Motor

You pass then. lol 143k miles

Although eventually you'll learn that mileage on a Honda motor doesn't really matter as long as it's well maintained. If you decide to change your mind let me know.

You're a hell of a salesman! I kinda wanna buy your engine and I have 2! lol Just kidding...about wanting yours...I do have 2..

One thing you will want to look into is preforming standard maintenance before installing. (timing belt/water pump, fresh oil etc.) check into what their warranty covers. I've heard of people popping the lid on the valves and finding massive top end problems that the company wouldn't cover because they broke into it where if they installed it and grenaded it they would have honored warranty. Do lots of research. 12 benjis is a lot to spend on something as unstable as an engine. It's not a battery works or doesn't. There is a lot that can go wrong. Good luck and I hope all works out well for you.

Re: New Motor

And it seems like a seller with a good reputation on numerous forums selling a (well running) engine for cheap is the best way to go. At least that's what I would do.

Re: New Motor

yeah, hes got great feedback from people who got motors from him. I stay away from motors that just look like junk or someone who never sells motors. The guy im having put the motor in said he will do it for $600 to take old motor out, new motor in. Is this a good labor price? he also offered me $200 for old motor but thats not going to happen.

I don't believe when they say"it only has 25000 to 45000 miles on them" it's hard to believe a 10year old motor has low miles like that.jus saying

well they are pulled from the car and they just look at the odm to see what miles were on the car. Allot of them you can tell just by looking at them that they are very low mile engines. its obvious between a motor with 120k and 40k as long as they havent been re painted.
