Check engine light errors driving me crazy

I keep getting error P0420 as the main code, then P1457. I've checked everywhere, but nothing seems to be exactly the same as my problem. The Honda dealership wants $88 just to look at it. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Check engine light errors driving me crazy

A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / exhaust pipe
Retarded spark timing
The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings

Possible Solutions
Some suggested steps for troubleshooting a P0420 error code include:

Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.
Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).
Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary
Replace the catalytic converter

my best bet is a bad 02 sensor.

as far as the P1457 EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System) check all the vac lines that are associated with the evap canister. did you pull any vac lines?

are the 02 sensors the same or are they both different parts? i replaced the cat a few months ago because the original one crumbled apart on the inside. i haven't pulled any vacuum lines.

no, the 02's are different, you need the primary and secondary. here is a link to the o2's for a sh, just fill in your year and model if you are not a 98 sh...

24285 for after the cat $54.85 and 24286 before the cat $69.85. both are ngk sensors. look into bosch, they might be a bit cheaper.

NTK (NGK's O2 sensor division) is the OEM for Honda. Stay away from Bosch O2 sensors.
