Knocking Noise?

Not too sure what's wrong. It's only when idling and I believe it's only in the cold but I think theres a sort of knocking noise in my engine when idling or revving. Can anyone here it or tell me where it's coming from or what the problem is? Sounds like a diesel. Maybe it's time for a rebuild/engine swap... :(

Re: Knocking Noise?

But could it be bearing? Rod? Valve? Any chance it could even be timing belt?

Re: Knocking Noise?

the timing might be off, but if the belt broke you wouldn't be running. sounds like a potential bottom end problem. hopefully you can get it to a shop man.

Re: Knocking Noise?

It's been like that for at least 4 months. Still drives so I'll probably get it checked out soon since I've been so busy.

Thats never good...

And if your car sounds like a diesel and its not then you probably threw something its not too loud though I dont think you threw a rod but I don't know. Id get it checked out ASAP and dont expect it to be cheap at all.

Re: Knocking Noise?

You think it'd be cheaper to rebuild the engine or do an engine swap? I won't be doing any of the labor either.

Re: Knocking Noise?

you not doing the labor then swap is cheaper.

but when you do a rebuild you get a motor with basically "0" miles on it, gotta take that into consideration

Re: Knocking Noise?

I'll see what my mechanic has to say. From what I can tell, it not a loud knock and it doesn't happen everytime.

Re: Knocking Noise?

Your engine is shot. The longer you drive it the worse it will get. If its a rod bearing, be prepared to have the rod blow out your block. I wouldnt take any road trips..lol.

Re: Knocking Noise?

Yes. 91 octane (we don't have 93 in Canada) and used mobil1 conventional oil. I've never put anything under 91.

Re: Knocking Noise?

This might not help but about a month ago I took a road trip to the US. Was about 200-300km. Didn't have a problem at all. Maybe I'm just lucky... knock on wood.
