Timing belt/water pump @ 24k a problem??

Hey guys - I'm rather new on here so sorry for all the questions. I'm currently trying to get myself a nice Prelude. Long story short I found an 01 Type SH w 29k on it however the owner will not budge on price - asking $13,000. Luckily I came across another Prelude closer to me w 24k, auto but what are ya gonna do. My problem with this one is I called yesterday and the dealer went on about how great it is and then mentioned that before the guy traded it he changed the timing belt and water pump. Now i'm mechanically challenged if you will but that raised a flag with me. Is this something I should be concerned with??? Thanks

You are technically suppose to replace it every 90k miles or every 5 years which ever comes first. I don't know why he changed it right before he sold it though, seems like a waste of money to me. But there shouldn't really be anything wrong with it as long as it runs and drives good I wouldn't be worried, you might want to do a compression test on it though :P

Thanks man - I was just thinking with such low mileage why would you need to replace the timing belt and like you mentioned especially when you getting rid of it. Thanks again for the input

Yep, water pump could have broken and it could have over heated so make sure you do a compression test :P and one with oil also. There is info on how to do a compression test on here incase you don't know how, just gotta search to find it

Re: Timing belt/water pump @ 24k a problem??

Nothing to be concerned with at all! I would actually be happy to know that it was done. The car is old so it was replaced because of the age interval. Always get the water pump done when you change a timing belt!
