HIDs & Battery question

Part 1
Let me start by saying that I bought the car with HIDs and I dunno what brand, how many K or any info on it..

My driver side headlight works perfect!! It turns on blue from the start & stays that way. Now to the problem.. my passenger side headlight turns on yellow then charges up to blue. (about 3-5 secs) Now the passenger side turns on (sometimes) and then shuts off completely!!

I've read that it could be a relay or is it the ballast?

Part 2

Also, is there anyway that installing HIDs incorrectly drain the battery?? I just put in a new battery and it died on me!! I checked the alternator and it's fine. Can i test to see if there's something draining the battery when the car is off?

Thanks guys!!
You've been very helpful

Re: HIDs & Battery question

It could be that you have two different bulbs and maybe one is wearing out or one is a different temperature then the other. If your ballast were blown, they wouldn't turn on at all, same thing with relay. Usually when bulbs go bad, they turn purple or have a purple sort of tint (from stock 4300k tempurature HID's)

It shouldn't drain your battery. It's either on or off. Do you hear any whinning from your ballast even when your HID's are on?

Re: HIDs & Battery question

I'm actually leaning the opposite direction. From my experience with ballasts and lights it sounds like the ballast going bad to me. The igniter is what starts the arc in the bulb to get the xenon gas vaporized. When the igniter isn't kicking out the full 23,000v or what ever it is, the gas is a little unstable because it didn't get the right kick in the pants. That's what the color variation is.

Re: HIDs & Battery question

I actually just got an HID setup and had some flickering issues, are you sure the bulb in clamped in all the way?

I had a ballast go out on my first time out, shame shame on that ballast! but it went completely, will not fire at all.. So from the research ive done and questions ive asked im thinking your ballast is in the process of commiting suicide, or the bulb itself is starting to go bad, hense the color changes and charging up..

Do a volt test on the two wires comming out the ballast, also on the original light plug in, might help out..
