Should I sell the lude?

Lately ive been really thinking about sellin my prelude for an S2000.

Ive wanted an AP1 S2k for years. If I sold the lude i could squeeze one into my budget as long as its under 15k.

Ive driven an AP2 and loved it...tho part of me doesnt want to let the prelude go..like ive got unfinished business with it.

2 years ago when I bought the car I had the mods planned out ive gotten some of the mods done over the years and part of me wants to finish it.

but at the same time part of me wants to leave the car behind because of all the crap ive gone through fixing stuff owning it the whole time ive owned it which at the same time makes me wanna keep it a little longer even tho it seemed like fixing something small or large was a monthly ordeal

If I sold it id more than likely part out the mods i do have.

so what do you guys think sell it and get a 2002-2003 S2000

or

keep the prelude.

its an 01 base manual of course 141k on the clock

Re: Should I sell the lude?

Well a S2k is still a Honda so I would go for it. A friend of mine owns a S2k and I had a chance to ride it and it made me want one but I have kids. I needed the little space that I have in the lude for the carseat lol... Its really a decision that you would have to make though...

Re: Should I sell the lude?

Save up and keep the lude as a DD?
The lude's value right now isnt too great and s2k's aren't the most practical daily drivers.

Prices for s2ks are going way down as the years are going
Me and my brother picked one up an AP1, clean title with 90k miles for well under $10k last year

Re: Should I sell the lude?

When a sports car's resale value begins to drop, the wrong people start to buy them. Two of the biggest examples of this are the fifth gen Prelude and the AP1 S2000. Think about that. An S2000 is an awesome car, but very hard to live with...unless you're a loner with no friends (in which case the single other seat won't be an issue).

Re: Should I sell the lude?

There's a lot of info that only you can answer as well

Your job security, can you afford a higher insurance rate, will you ever need the trunk/passenger space, etc

Getting the car without justifying all of the angles might put you in worse of situation if you don't thoroughly think it through

GL with your decision

Re: Should I sell the lude?

Thats a qiestion i ask myself often
especially since insurance on an s2k here is 400 a year less than my lude

but id have to dd winter

i always end up deciding i wub my lude and i can get an s2k later as a fun only car

U just gotta weigh the pros and cons and decide for urself as only u know what u need from ur car atm

Re: Should I sell the lude?

You're answering your own question. You fixed the major problems already. Presto! Why get an otherwise beat on S2K without knowing its problems, keep your lude. Do you realize how many people on this forum would kill for a base manual kept up with little miles? You got it good.

Re: Should I sell the lude?

i agree the prelude is a bit more practical for a dd. tho dd the s2000 would be no problem.

added insurance and car payment wouldnt be a prob ether.

usually when it came to going out if there was more than one other person riding we me we took another car lol.

id get an s2k with as few miles as i could find. tho in some aspects of the maintenance id be better with the lude as the trans was re built around 100k and the motor with after market stuff at 120k.

but other stuff on the car keeps braking which the main reason i want to get rid of it.

its nickel and dimeing me left and right.

as of now it needs an ac compressor and to have the system flushed and recharged.

im pretty sure the power steering pump is going out. the front also started eating tires.

tho with the s2k something like the timing belt might be around the corner i can live with that.

Re: Should I sell the lude?

I'd keep the Prelude and make it a project DD and save up to get a Scubby instead of a S2K bc Scubbys are sexy and 4WD!!!

You can make your prelude the Summer b*tch while making the Scubby the Summer/winter b*tch!!!

Re: Should I sell the lude?

Also, every car nickel and dimes you, even if you follow the scheduled maintenance plan.

I wish I can find the damn article, "Used vs. New cars." It basically says unless your car is on fire, wrecked, or stolen, maintaining used cars will always win over buying again and again. It might be biased because they did the article on a Dime/dozen accord, and not a specialty vehicle.

You could sell the Prelude and step into a Acura TSX. They are mad fun and CRAZY practical. And easy to buy used.
