Help! Headlights won't turn on

I just found out both my headlights wouldn't turn on. It was fine last night, then I parked my car and drove it again about 12 hours later then I tried to turn on the low beams, but nothing. The city lights work, but the low/high won't light up. I have retros, and I checked all the wiring's for loose connections, but everything was all plugged correctly and right. Am I missing something? I checked the fuse box under the hood, I think it's 2 fuses for the headlights, one for the left and one for the right, and both are 20A, both of them are good, no burnts. Anything else I should check?

Maybe your ballast are blown.

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

I would find another fuse to try. I have had fuses that looked good, but weren't for whatever reason. I don't know how they were bad since they looked fine.

And, yep could be the ballast if it isn't the fuses.

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

I would point towards a fuse. For both ballasts to go T.U. at once is very unlikely. Do you have factory wires running the ballasts or have you hardwired via a relay? The reason I ask is given the retros they can be fine once on. They draw very little current once on, hence why they worked last night. You go to turn them on, and on start up they draw significantly more juice. Possibly exceeding the fuses rating or age. Fuses can fatigue. Especially on something that is high current and on for extended time. (i.e. headlights)

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

I swapped the fuses already, I used 2 other 20A fuses to put in its place and it still didn't turn on.

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

Hmm...well. try and hook up a balast directly to the battey and see of the power on. If so, it maybe the relay is bad. Try and tap on it to see if its just stuck. If that doesn't work you may wanna buy a new one. No need to go thru all that tho if your ballasts are bad. So ty that first.

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

I don't think it can be the ballast, because it seems pretty weird if both the ballast just suddenly stopped working at the same time.

Re: Help! Headlights won't turn on

It does seem very weird. But, nothing is impossible. So check the relay. Have someone turn the lights on and off and see if you can feel the rely click.
