Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

I believe fronts are 5.25" and the rears are 6x9's.
However, in the DIY interior section there is an easy right up on how to install 6.5" speakers in the doors and even mount crossovers and tweeters. Worthy investment.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

I think Alpine mostly makes deep mount baskets. I actually bought some 6.5" for my front (the components) and it was not working well for me, I cut the OEM basket and everything from the lude and it wasn't working out for me, the other thing I worried about was rolling down the window and having that hit the speaker. I then bought the 5.25 Type R components and those fit in like a glove and sound excellent. I also have an Alpine amp (PDX-4.150) that I need to hook up to the speakers, but even without it they sound great.

If you were interested I still have my Type R 6.5" speakers if you wanted to see if you can get them installed on your lude. Let me know.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

Nope the 6.5 goes on the front and 6X9 goes on the rear

A tool I like, and have used to outfit cars is Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Stereo, Home Theater, Speakers, Digital Cameras You put in your make of car, year, etc. and it will give you all the speaker sizes & a list of speakers that they carry in those sizes. I like them also because if you buy the speakers through them they send you adapters to transition from factory plugs to the speakers you bought. Nice IMO! Check it out.

I just put my 98 prelude into there and it said "does not fit" on every speaker I looked at.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

6.5's will fit in the front if you cut the back side of that plastic basket. If you're worried about the magnet hitting the glass, then you'll have to make an mdf spacer between the speaker and mounting ring. Rears are 6x9's.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

if said speaker is too deep, flush mount it on washers with a strong ring.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

I put in Polk db650s shallow mount 6.5" coaxial 2-way speakers in my front doors. It fit without having to cut the plastic basket. It was a tight fit, but it works.

Re: 5th Gen Speaker Sizes

i would've thought the smaller side windows on the 5th gens wouldnt interfere too much with speakers, they dont look like they go down as deep as the huge 4th gen window...
and wow, a quick google "shallow mount 6.5" search comes up with basically everything being Kicker and Infinity, the latter being awesome.
