Icon5 Just got a 98 Prelude automatic

Well as the topic states I just purchased a 1998 Prelude for $2500. It has 124,000 miles one owner and has been very well taken care of. The timing belt was changed at 110,000. The Automatic transmission was replaced with a new one at 115,000. The water and fuel pumps are all in the last year or so. I have every receipt for every bit of work that was done on this car since it left the dealership even oil changes. Tires have only 10K on them and the exhaust is even less than 2 yrs old. I know I got a steal of a deal but I want to do a few things to it in the next year or so. All of the suspension parts are original and I believe need to be replaced. I do plan on putting some upgrades in the power dpt but want the rest of the car to be sound and up to par to handle the new power up grades. Just looking for a little direction and where do yall think I should start? Thanks and I will post picís soon.

If you're going to do the suspension, spend the money. Especially if you plan to lower it.

Re: Just got a 98 Prelude automatic

Wonderful.

Be prepared for the usual flood of "5 speed swap" suggestions.

Re: Just got a 98 Prelude automatic

In my opinion, I would do a 5 speed swap ONLY if your auto transmission starts to fail. Why bother wasting the money now when it works fine. I just wouldn't suggest putting money into tuning an auto engine then having to toss it to swap it later on.

Amazing deal though. Hope you enjoy your Prelude.

Re: Just got a 98 Prelude automatic

Could sell the auto tranny and buy a 5speed or start saving for the swap.

Theres the warning.

The idea of keeping the auto til it starts to fail is good. Collect parts for the 5sp swap, or you could sell it for more than you bought it for, and get a good 5sp or SH.
