steel seal for head gasket repair

I was just wondering has anyone on this forum used this product before to repair a blown head gasket. I have an 97 honda prelude with an h22a motor lately i've been seeing signs of a blown head gasket such as milky creamy liquid under the oil cap and smoke out my exhaust on slight heavy reving. I'm low on cash and not really looking to spend a load of cash on head gasket replacement... heres some video of the steel seal at work.....and link http://www.steelseal.com/?gclid=CLXq...FVFx5Qod-j7GVw

Re: steel seal for head gasket repair

if you have a free weekend then just replace it yourself

head gasket - $50
new head bolts - $70 (dont have to replace them but its recommended)
head resurfacing - like $50
and a couple more gaskets and your done.

Re: steel seal for head gasket repair

I have actually seen the damage that stuff can do to an engine. A friend of mine used it once and the car started overheating right after. He decided to tear into the engine and actually replace the head gasket like he should have done in the first place. Once he got the head off he gave me a call and told me to come check it out. Turns out this stuff actually created a solid glass looking shield where the water jackets meet the head gasket blocking off all flow to the head. It looked like it was blocking some of the water jackets in the block too. What a mess!!

Re: steel seal for head gasket repair

I don't think any of that fix in a can crap should ever be used.

Re: steel seal for head gasket repair

I've heard of many people having variable amounts of success with stop leak products. Sometimes they work, but fail after a day or a week or a year its hard to say... It would serve as a temporary solution, but it could cost you more in the end potentially clogging your radiator or heater core and you could end up spending more than what you would have in the beginning.

IMO it comes down to what you can afford when. If you can't possibly afford to pay someone else to change the hg at the moment and you need you car then you might have to try the stop leak. But be prepared for it to fail so if/when it does you are ready for it.

A mechanic once told me that Cadillac recommends stop leak as part of its maintenance schedule because they develop so many small leaks... I'm not sure if that's true but it might add to this topic.

Re: steel seal for head gasket repair

My father tried that stuff in his volvo wagon. All it did was ruin the new radiator in a week, didn't help the head gasket, and had to have the job done anyway.. I dont think its a good solution. Though companies that make that stuff do offer your money back if it doesn't work.

They may offer money back but it doesn't cover the damage their product does.
