Check engine...NEED HELP!!

(2000 Honda Prelude SH) Well I have had a check engine light for a while and kept clearing the codes. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor. Took it to my buddys shop and tried to figure out what was wrong and came up with nothing so far. He told me its running rich as hell and its a wide range of things that could be causing the trouble codes. The codes I got were p0300, p0302, p0304, and p1399. When I let it idle the rpms want to drop to like 600-800 and the check engine light starts flashing. So when driving and coming to a stop I have to keep the rpms about 1000 to stop the flashing. I have to put a quart of oil in every two weeks or so and it doesnt smoke and lose any oil on the ground. There are small oil spots around the crank cover and another spot on the motor. I dont want to take it to honda and pay and assload for them to replace everything till its fixed. Does anybody have any suggestions so I can get this fixed??? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Check engine...NEED HELP!!

1. Go to google.

2. Type in "OBD2 codes"

3. Click on the OBD2 codes website

4. Enter the codes you have

5. Find out what the codes mean and the common causes to fix them

6. Fix them.

Here, I'll get you started Google

Re: Check engine...NEED HELP!!

Had these exact same codes, and same thing happened to me except later on my car started dying if I didn't keep the RPM's up and it is my piston rings, I am currently rebuilding my motor because of that. I would do a compression test and a leak down test. Bummer deal if it is the rings. You been burning a lot more oil than normal also? also could be that you need a valve adjustment.

Yeah just saw you were burning quite a bit of oil, very pricey to change rings, my mechanic quoted me $2800 for changing the rings and the timing belt. There are a lot of other things you will need also like a bunch of gaskets and getting your head resurfaced and all that fun stuff, and i got my head checked and because I was burning so much oil there was build up around my exhaust valves so i got quoted $300 for a valve job (I decided I would just upgrade to some forged skunk2 valves and upgrade my whole valve train)

Dont know, you could be right. But p0300 (random misfire), p0302 (cylinder 2 misfire), p0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) if my memory serves me right.

Re: Check engine...NEED HELP!!

I had these codes as well...to keep this short; swap the motor or rebuild. Only way to clear the codes without all the BS

Re: Check engine...NEED HELP!!

If your selling it to someone then your most likely ripping them off so dont sell it to someone you would be afraid of...

Do a compression test and a leak down test and you can see if its your rings...
