low mileage 99' lude?

Hey guys, it's been a while! I just found a beautiful, low mileage (69,000) 1999 Honda Prelude SH for sale right near me for $6,900! This could be the one fore me. I did, however, just recently test drive a very nice 2002 Acura RSX Type-S with 74k miles on it with the 6-speed manual transmission with a few upgrades and fell in love! I guess the question is, what do you guys think about checking this Lude out?

Also, I know everyone on here loves preludes, but, honestly, what're the pros and cons to both cars, and which would you choose for overall performance, reliability, and how well it'll hold up? The H series engine is an older one, so I'm sure the RSX's I-VTEC K engine is much better and would take some minor upgrades better, correct? Thanks for the help.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

I would personally go for the lude, because it's just a classier car IMO. I would say if they are both in about the same condition, it's just personal preference.
the K series responds to bolt ons a lot better than the H. so that's the pro.
The con is that the rsx is a chick car. If you think it's for you, strap on your maxipad and jump into the Rsx. lol

p.s. I would never buy or own a car that someone else modded, there is always the chance that the car was beaten on.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

yea. i would also never buy a modded car, unless i knew the person, or they were reputable.. even then... go with the lude, less miles, stock, and i would say more rare. Good luck in whatever you choose!

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

Why do people say that the RSX is a chick car? That's just retarded! This car has a good bit of power, nice 6-speed transmission (I really think having that 6th gear helps), and I have seen it on the track! Now, a true "chick" designed car is the Honda De-sol. I've heard it really was designed to appeal to females.

The guy has an awesome body kit on it (carbon fiber hood is part of it), a very nice stage 2 clutch, nice black wheels, and a cold air intake! The cons are the windshield needs to be replaced, and the leather on the steering wheel is falling apart. I'd still get it checked out by a trusted mechanic first to make certain that it's worth buying.

The prelude looks beautiful and in near perfect condition, and it has leather seats! It was a trade in, and they say "the true mileage is unknown". Not quite sure what that's about! I e-mailed the guy so we shall see. I have always thought that the Prelude just looked so sleek!

If it says "true milage unknown"be carefull because I knew someone with a 2002 chevy tahoe with 220,000 miles on it and what he did was changed the gauge cluster with a lower milage one and sold it for $10000 lol.
69,000 miles on a 99 prelude sounds fishy.idk

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

id take a del sol over an rsx any day. rsx are wack and wayyyy too common. a true chick car IMO is a tibouron, celica, new beetle, just about anything VW, etc.

id say go for the lude, theyre rarer and definitely a lot nicer looking. plus the rsx is modded, f that man

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

Thanks for the advice. The local dealer that has the prelude has a lot of other cars with carfax, so I will see if they can get that for me. I'll post a picture of the RSX in a few. I have a feeling you all might think a little differently about it once you see the actual car. I'm honestly not a huge fan of how the bone stock one looks, too.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

The rsx's tranny is worse than the 5th gen auto tranny. And the rsx has a noodley suspension with a weak version of a macphereson strut. Go for the lude. I mean honestly, you picked two boats, might as well go with the one that handles better.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

What makes the RSX transmission bad? Oh, I looked at the carfax and it had an odometer problem and was not reading mileage right. It looked like the last true recording was 93k miles in 11/09.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

Ludes are and always will be more rare than RSX's.

It's really a matter of what you're looking for. If you wanna fit in, get the RSX. If you want something people will call a Civic cause they've never seen one and you can proudly correct them, get the Lude.

Mine was a one owner car 2001 with 63k on it. I have the carfax to verify the mileage though. Seems like a fair price. I had mine for sale for $7200 obo with that mileage...might be again very soon.

Just check it out really good and see how it drives to see if it feels pretty tight still.

k. 1. chick car is a beetle(hense the flower pot built in...) or a sunfire(or sunfag if you will)
2. lude over the rsx anyday
3. h over k anyday(unless in a da, dc, eg or ek)

Truth! Lol. I got a seatbelt ticket before new year and it said civic on the ticket.. I was pissed! Lol

It really just depends on which one you like better

And the Carfax on my car is messed up because the mileage was recorded in kilometers and then after it was in the US they converted the miles and then got service done at Honda they recorded the milage but it was actually kilometers (carfax went from 40,000 miles to 100,000 miles to 60,000 lol... I would definitely ask them about because you never know

To me the RSX is just like a civic so I'd go with the lude

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

The RSX's transmission is bad because they have weak syncro's. Most RSX owners will face walls when going into certain gears after a bit of time, entirely blocking them out of that gear, then they have to rebuild their tranny. I've had friends have to do this two or three times before they just said **** it and sold the car for an S2k.

I have owened two RSX's, an 02 and an05. If you want an RSX go with a 05 or 06, my 02 model sucked, it had problem after problem. I have a 98 prelude and I is a lot more fun and I think it looks better, but I did like the 05 RSX also. Good luck...

Well if that's the case it should have about a 100000 miles on it now and that means your Gona have to do some work on it like change water pump and timing belt.

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

In all honesty. An rsx with about 100k miles or less will run you close to 8-9k still in almost new condition. I love rsx-s when done correctly. but stock on stock, prelude all the way. or S2000!!

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

The local dealer that is selling the car said that he had no way of getting in contact with the previous owner. How do I find out the true mileage then? Is there any way?

The rsx was very nice to drive and the shifting was beautiful! The guy is asking $7,200 but I offered $6,200 in cash if I sell my car.

I'll go check out the prelude soon and see how I like it, then I'll let you guys know. Thanks for the help.

It's an older model so it's gonna have more problems then the 05-06 models. I've always liked the newer ones better because the lights aren't wavy like those lol

Just be careful dude.. You never know what that car has been through.. Especially with those stickers

Re: low mileage 99' lude?

That color scheme isn't all that bad, just the decals and graphics are what screws it up and the front bumper. 6200 is a fair price for a rsx in that condition. But i wouldn't rush into buying it just yet, keep your options open, you'll regret it later if you rush it.
