My UK spec 5th Gen with pics/build up

Just thought I'd pop a post on here of my 1998 Prelude.

Runs from when I first got it to getting the new alloys on Friday just gone

Bought it July 2010:

Spec is:

Comes with all the Prelude extras including:
4 wheel power steering,
Cruise control,
Electric tilt and slide glass sunroof,
Air conditioning,
Electric windows,
Laserline Alarm & Immobiliser (soon to be replaced with a Toad Ai606)
Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
Driver and passenger air bags,
17" alloys
Height adjustable steering wheel,
Remote central locking

Pics:

Had it as stock for the 1st few weeks then set about to doing a bit here and there :)

Air intake resenator removed and OEM intake removed; AEM V2 installed.

Update with pics of interior; engine bay and new chrome exhaust tips :)

Then a service update:

Had a full brake overhaul with Blueprint OEM blank discs all round; Blueprint OEM pads on the rear and Ferodo DS2500's on the front. HEL brake lines all round and a full brake, clutch, gearbox and engine oil change. New calipers on the rear and all calipers painted Hammerite black

Honda OEM front fogs fitted

Decat fitted today as well and both aux belts changed at last!

Another few things that needed to be done:

Rear 'Honda' and 'Prelude 2.2 VTi' badges removed as they were peeling off their sticky back anyways... Unfortunately it appears that they've been 'removed' before and whoever did it cocked all the paint/lacquer up as well but the damage has been sprayed over and it looks a mess...

Anyways both have been replaced with aftermarket stickers for now; one side is a VTEC DOHC emblem in black and the other side is a naff JDM '98RON only or she'll be sick and not want to play' emblem

Both front and rear 'H' emblems have been replaced as well; looks a lot better :)

Had the spark plugs changed as the engine was still a little hesitant even though the dizzy cap and rotor arm were changed; all sorted now though :D

New thermostat changed as well as from what I thought, the temp needle was rising far too quickly (like sometimes as soon as I started the engine)!

More bits done:

Had the centre console surround carbon wrapped the other day; looks lush

Also had this arrive today :D

New boots being were fitted as well; Toyo T1R's 215/45/17's all round

New suspension and other bits:

Ended up going for D2 coilovers instead. Come with full TUV approval now and a full 12months warrenty for any defects etc...

Ride height dropped c30mm all round

Feels and handles much better now. Dampers set at 18 currently so will have a fiddle round with the settings over the next month or so but they feel spot on now...

Camber and toe all fine as well

Brand new dizzy and Lambda sensor fitted as well to rule out other options for the hesitating. Valve clearances done as well; drive home was VERY smooth indeed. Fuchs 5w 40 oil and filter change as well in readiness for the colder weather!

Coilovers lowered the car about 30mm all round (or there abouts). The sills are level to the ground so it looks spot on

Latest mod; new alloys & wheel nuts :)

New alloys... Buddyclub SF 17 x 7 ET42 in Gunmetal grey with Ultralite anodised blue nuts

Not bthe best pics but only ones I have currently. Will get some better ones ASAP.

Had to dremel the insides of the rear bumpers as well as the tyres were catching on full lock with it having 4WS. All sorted now.

Needs an exhaust next as mine has just started to blow :(

Going for a GReddy Evo II or a Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper Spec

Hope you like

Very clean man! I like the radio trim that's wrapped in carbon fiber!
Do you still have the wood trim around the shift knob too? Or do you have the oem simulated carbon fiber now?

Keep it up man.. I love seeing rhd's

Like everyone else has said "CLEAN". I Love your wheels and the lip kit... japan and europe get all the best cars. How do you like your d2 coilovers... any trouble in the cold weather.

Re the original 'wood' interior trim and gear knob; yes, still got them. Sat in the shed gathering dust!

The D2's have been superb over the winter. We've had a fair bit of snow and very cold weather here and they've handled it all fine

The car got a good clean underneath to get rid of all the salt once the snow had gone so the coilovers are nice and clean; for now...

Re: My UK spec 5th Gen with pics/build up

Build update:

New exhaust system arrived and fitted yesterday; Apexi WorldSport 2

System looks and sounds superb but fitment wasnt as good as we'd expected; had to heat and bend the right hand side hanger on the back box to get the tip to sit right under the bumper; also the centre section hangs a little low where it meets the back box.

It does catch on stupidly huge speedbumps but normal ones are fine; may try & get it sorted very soon with some that Stevie @ EightSpeed knows (he does a lot of fabrication etc...)

Pics (for now):

The sound is superb. Not stupidly loud at all; great when cruising as very quiet (very close to OEM to be honest) but in VTEC it gives a great grumble and growl when you floor the accelerator

I have always wondered, what is the purpose of the red light on the bumper?

Also, how much did you pay for the apexi exhaust?

Really a rear fog light? Thats bonkors!

It's probably cheaper to buy out of the states since everything is made out of other countries then imported to the US.

Why's a rear fog light bonkers?

1/ They're necessary over here in the UK (more so at this time of the year) as we've had some real 'pea-soupers' of fog and mist over the last few weeks with it being very cold over night and slightly humid during the day.

I'd rather someone know I'm in front of them with my nice BRIGHT red light rather than them rear-end me due to them not being able to see me until the last minute...

2/ They're MUST be installed on EVERY car in the UK; it's the law... Simples!

The Apexi has cost me 550 UK Sterling and shipped from the States. Ordered on Thursday 13th Jan; landed Monday 17th and fitted Friday 21st Jan

Re: My UK spec 5th Gen with pics/build up

Hell I've not updated in here for ages...

Here goes

Up to date pics of new manifold and D2 coilovers

Pics of steering wheel will be up next week

D2's damping set at 18 at the rear and 24 at the front... Still fiddling with this

Another small update:

After market HBK OH207 steering boss and a suede 350mm Sabelt steering wheel fitted:

Superb wheel thanks to Rallynuts 8)

Big thanks to Stevie at Grinspeed in Leyland, Preston as well for doing the work.

VTEC solanoid gasket replaced as well as the original one had started to leak

That's it now for mods I think; time to leave it for a bit and then get the paintwork and some small patches of rust sorted :)

Another lil update; speedo dressed up

I think they look ok :P

Will get pics of the OEM EK9 leather & red stitching gaiter up as soon as it lands from Honda

EK9 gaiter fitted 8)

Before:

During:

After:

Pre and post bodyshop work

Before:

Where the back of the boot lid is and where the OEM Honda and 2.2 VTi stickers were; the lacquer that was under them has come off leaving 2 areas that are a mess; they'll need respraying so will see if they can be done and blended in OR whether it'll be a full respray

Overall the bonnet is good but there has been some overspray I think; clayed it yesterday and the cack that came off was amazing but it's still not perfect. Hopefully it'll come off with a proper mop and polish but will see whats said.

Pics:

Drivers door edge needs sorting:

Scratch on drivers side rear arch needs sorting; should be done when they cut out and re-weld the damaged area of rust (pic below) and the arch will be sanded down as well underneath to get rid of rust coming through. All to be resprayed and blended in:

Front and rear bumpers (and lips) to be resprayed; front bumper isnt too bad (just overspray really and a bit of orange peel). Rear bumper has a fair few scratches and scuffs etc...

Side skirts to be resprayed; full of scratches and scuffs:

Boot lid issues (lacquer ripped off when some dumbass tried to take off the 'Honda' & '2.2 VTi' badges (done before I bought the car but now covered with 2 cack stickers

After:

Managed to get some pics; not great I know but you get the overall idea; more so when you compare them to the above pics of the issue areas before the car went into the bodyshop 8)

Cost be 600 overall but they've done a superb job with a full mop and polish all round as well.

Little bits still to do but not rushing (i.e. wing mirrors, front bumper etc...) The issues with these are hard to see unless you really look for them.

Overall I'm chuffed to bits with the finish; paintwork is like glass and I love the de-badged look. It'll be staying that way me thinks :D

Next stop; front drop link bushes to be replaced and Mercutio's ATR cams to be fitted...

Re: My UK spec 5th Gen with pics/build up

Will look into tuning after that

Received these today thanks to Mercutio... H22A7 cams and cam gears

Just a small update with better pictures and of the engine bay as well with the Type S intake in

Car is also booked infor the last week of April to get the ATR cams and cam gears install along with a full coolant change; new cambelt, balancer belt, water pump, cam seals etc...

Will then look into aftermarket tuning but more than likely going to go down the Dastek/Unichip route as it caters for what I'd need. Hondata is a bit OTT for the route I'm going down IMO as I'll not use most of the capabilities etc...

Re: My UK spec 5th Gen with pics/build up

Car booked in for next Thursday (28th April)

H22A7 cams, cam gears, springs & retainers to be fitted along with a Hondata intake gasket, new cam and balancer belt and water pump with full coolant flush etc...

I had the Prelude on the dyno last friday; with the mods as they are (Type S intake, full 2.5" DC Sports manifold, decat and Apexi WSII exhaust) it made 203.7BHP at the fly and 160 torque; that's up from 185BHP as standard

The H22A7 cams and the other parts should be good for another 15-20BHP hike... Will look into tuning then; after a bit more research it looks like Hondata S300 will be the one to go for...

Comments welcome
