Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

I donít know how the rest of you feel about the PSPEC short throw shifter kit but personally the only thing I donít like about it is you canít make it all that much shorter then the factory height because of the plastic ďcageĒ that prevents it from going any lower.

As you can see you canít make the shifter any shorter because the bar on the left is going to hit the plastic right below it.

As appose to cutting the plastic in order to lower the shifter more, would there be any problems with cutting the bottom of the bar on the left (approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of the bottom)? The location of the bar on the left is perfect so I wont move that but by cutting the bottom of that bar I can lower the bar on the right more and the bar on the left wont hit the plastic.

Can anyone see this causing any problems of any kind? What are your thoughts?

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

think i'd just trim back the plastic just enough to wear it doesnt hit.. alot easier. and not like that top area is structural really

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

if you arethe only one going to be owning it (I hope man!) just take that one bar off and bring it to a machine shop. have them put it in a lathe and maybe drill another hole if you want at the top. if you have the tools, a hose clamp (to keep the cut straight) and a hacksaw with a really good blade should do the trick. file down the edges for that nice look.

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

Just use a dremel and cut off the plastic that's in the way... You shouldn't have to cut enough to cause a problem

I had to cut a little bit off the top right corner of the plastic because I have my jtc short shifter lower than the lowest option and the plastic was in the way.. I didn't have to take it anywhere I was able To just make a notch with the hex since the material the hex screws is made from it really strong.. Not sure it'll work with that short shifter but I should try that first

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

I hear what you guys are saying with just cutting the plastic and that's what I was thinking of doing originally but I just thought cutting the shifter where I want to would be easier. I can see dremeling it being a mess, but with cutting it I just measure where I want, pull it out, cut it, and that's it. I wouldn't need to take it to a shop or anything, my fiance's father can cut the shifter for me no problem.

And I do plan on 100% owning this shifter no matter what I do Alex. I've had it for over a year and have no problems with it. So I definitely would have no problems doing any alterations to the shifter.

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

Cutting the shifter is easier? So I guess u don't have or have access to a dremel..

If your gonna always own the shifter like you said than I don't nothing wrong with cutting that bish

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

I do have a deremel but it would be a lot of guess and checking plus I'd make a mess. I'm not trying to make a big stink out of this, mainly I wanted to know if it would fark anything up if I cut it in terms of function. I assume it won't but I wanted to confirm with my good buddies at PZ

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

yeah, I'd much rather cut it. plastic is messy, and I don't like things half assed haha. but ya man, you won't be messing up anything

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

I think it'd be easier to cut the actual shifter as opposed to the plastic for a cleaner look. Make sure you take your time and do it right. cut it and get a file and make it nice so just in case it won't snag or rip anything.

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

^well you won't see the plastic anyway so it looks just as clean.
I took the plastic piece out and cut it and wasn't messy

But either way will get the job done and look the same and won't hurt anything..so it's up to you.

Post pics once you have it lower than flo rida in a low rider

Cut the bar on the left, if you know you aren't going to run it higher you could machine the lower inch or more off. Then you'll have a bit more clearance and be able to drop the right side down to that last hole. You could probably even machine another hole on the right side to go even lower.

You know looking at the pic even closer those aren't even holes they look to be like a counter sink, without a hole in the center and the screw holding it in place is nothing more than a set screw. If you have or know somebody that has a drill press shouldn't be that hard to do.

Re: Cutting PSPEC shifter to make shorter?

Also, I've been dying to know are these PSpec short throw shifter that much of a shorter throw that the stock shifter? I'm getting ready to install a light flywheel and heavier clutch and was just wondering as I know a short throw would be a nice touch to my heavier clutch and light flywheel.
