VAFC. Is it worth it?

My car seems to be burning rich (black spots on rear) and I was told by my mechanic to look into a VAFC since that can adjust how much gas it'll give andv whatnot. Will this stop my car from burning rich? Don't know too much about what the VAFC does.

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

The VAFC II also lets you adjust VTEC engage/disengage points...And minor fuel adjustments/mapping. It's also got an accurate RPM meter (as well as other meters). I use it to change my VTEC, and then just leave it on the RPM meter. Kinda cool, but not worth the $500-or-so it costs.

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

If you want to adjust fuel ratio and get more power, get an obd2 to obd1 harness, then get a p28, then have a program to tune it

IMO this is a better idea. If you shop around you can get a good setup for close to the same price as a VAFC. Unless of course you have to pass emissions or you have an SH.

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

I don't want to give more fuel. I want to stop it from burning rich, or at least reduce it. The spots on the rear of my car is annoying. It's coming up every day now. Yes I do have an SH and yes we do an emissions test every 2 years in Ontario.

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

well then a VAFC is i think one of a few options for you if you want to retain ATTS.

Dude... Vtec engines run rich (untuned) That black stuff on your bumper is most likely from you hitting vtech. You probably have an aftermarket exhaust too which allows all that to flow more freely

You wanna stop or reduce it?
easy fix: -keep back bumper waxed
-put stock exhaust on

Or -get it tuned (obd1) AND keep old ecu so you can change it back for emissions testing (also anytime you add a mod to the engine you can retune it for possibly more horsepower from those parts than without a tune
-Rebuild

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

Alright. Well I'll be changing my exhaust soon. I do have a stock exhaust but the pipe was widen. I might have to retune/rebuild the engine anyways. Seems like the power is really sloppy for some reason.

Re: VAFC. Is it worth it?

I just got my VAFC installed today and dyno tuned, I run 6% more lean and i gained 5hp, 7torque after the tuning.

I picked up my VAFC for 80 bucks so i thought it was a good deal.
