Re: small d.i.y. performance upgrades

well let me answer u before everybody up in here starts flammin on ur ass.
to increase mpg's change all ur fluids. use engine de-fogger an then complete tune up.
if its an auto tranny dont do a tranny flush, jus change the fluid an u may want to get a tranny cooler put in.

for performance if its an auto...I/h/e u really not gonna see much improvement cuz its an auto
if its a stick: do the same but remember u get wut u pay for. Get a header such as SMSP or hytech. Air intake is up to some people like aem other like the type-s oem one, injen an weapons-r are also ok ones.
for exhaust well theres a lot out there. depends on if u want loud an can hear u coming 3 blocks away (like most ricers and their civics lol jk jk) or something serious such as apexi ws2 or greddy SE series.
i would go with the ws2 only cuz i knoe alot of people who have it an like it.

then there ur cat-converter. dependin on where u live u can modify it. in ny where im located i bored it outan put a defouler plug on it. then ran 2.5pipes back to remus muffler an when u get into vtec honestly u feel a little more of a kick. other people will say how they dont like it cuz of odor or raspy-ness i honestly think it sounds fine.

then u cud upgrade ur ignition. nology spark plug wires, ngk plugs, msd distributor

but be warned once u start changing an modifyin, u will keep doin it lol

Coil-overs or dampeners....you will get a better drive, a better look, and maybe even better mpg if you lower it a little bit

For mpg's get a VAFC II.

Unless you have an auto, if you have an auto sell it and buy a 5sp.

why do you tell everyone to sell their auto? do you realize how much easier and cheaper it is just to do a 5spd swap?

to op: there's not a lot you can cheaply/easily do and sti have a big increase in power. to start of off; auto or manual? budget? how well can you work on cars?

I wouldn't be so worried with gas mileage...it's a Prelude, drive it like you own it! I'm lucky to get 23-24mpg hybrid driving (freeway/city). As for performance, don't impulse buy, and take the time to do some research. It won't be cheap

It is a 5 spd. I can do a fair bit of the work my self. I don't have that much money to spend but if there is something worth getting I will wait till I have enough money.

Re: small d.i.y. performance upgrades

well, a basic tune up and doing seafoam is a good place to start. as for intake, pick whichever you want. you're not really going to see antthing past like, 5whp from one. the v2, type s, and any CAI are popular. as for a header, do research, if not you'll be pissig money away. most headers out are far worse than the stocker. a catback will also open things up a bit. under general tech talk, NA, take a good look at h22 build up info. another good thing to consider is if you want to stay all engine or to boost it. I'd also suggest taking a look at suspension, wheels and tires
