Build Question(s)

Hello everyone, I just started my build on my 2001 black on black Lude, and I have a couple of questions. The car is an automatic (for now) and I did some reading on the failure rate on these tranny's so I decided to do a 5sp swap. Odds are I'll purchase the new tranny from a JDM shop outside of Toronto, and I'd like to put an aftermarket clutch/flywheel. What brands of clutch/flywheel's are typically good? Typically bad? I plan to put some bolt ons later on, so I thought maybe a Stage 2 clutch.
Secondly, is exhaust. I did some reading on the site which has been more than helpful. I'd just like some more input exhaust wise though, what exhaust systems tend to be more deep, and not ridiculously loud. The cars a cop-magnet enough as it is in my area, and too loud of an exhaust wouldn't help that. =P
Anyways, thanks very much for the input! I appreciate it.

Re: Build Question(s)

for the most part ive heard this.

Clutch = Exedy
just follow the link and you can punch in your car type and what not. Stage 1 or 2.
EXEDY Globalparts Corporation | High Performance and OEM Clutches and Flywheels

Exhaust = Apexi WS2
Apexi-USA - WS II

hope it helps at least a lil bit.

Re: Build Question(s)

Oh great, thanks!! Yeah, I heard some pretty solid reviews about both brands. I'd kinda like a sound similar to a Mugen twin loop, without having to pay the $1000 price tag, the WS2 is pretty close, right?

I've never heard of a ws2 twin loop. The only other twin loop I've seen is a obx muffler. Not whole exhaust. If u want a tone like the mugen twin loop but dont wanna pay that price, I would say the ws2 is prolly your best bet. Thats what I would choose.

Hey bro your on the correct track,remember you get what pay for,the guys here are on the money, so your be fine ,also when you change the fly wheel don't forget to change the oil main seal even if looks good.Also depending on the mileage i would do the timing belts,water pump,.tensioner balancer shaft seals,oil cooler seal,cam seals ,these things will save a lots of headaches trust me .The parts i mention are all general maintenance procedure.

Re: Build Question(s)

If all ur doin is bolt ons a stage 2 is a lil overkill. Not that thats a bad thing lol just sayin. I run an exedy stage 1 now. Exedy is good products. My next clutch will be an ACT tho. As for exhaust I have A'pexi and I love it. Twin loops sound alright. They can get raspy tho. If u plan on doing exhaust go with 3" piping. H22's LOVE 3" exhaust. It's dyno proven to see gains. And if ur lookin for a good header I have a group buy going on for a shop of mine hytech replica. Humble Performance Header Good luck with ur build

Re: Build Question(s)

Lightweight flywheels are overrated. Seriously.

Re: Build Question(s)

Wow! Thanks so much for the input, it's appreciated. And yes I did most of the maintenance not too long ago. T-belt, waterpump, all that; So that isn't a problem. The reason I thought a stage 2 would be good is just in case I get carried away, which is easy to do with this car, I'd have a bit more lee-way.
I don't want to get too carried away to start, just the simple header/intake/exhaust thing, anything else you guys would suggest to start?

Re: Build Question(s)

A stage 2 isn't overkill.

For the swap follow this and buy a helms manual.

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=302157

Exhaust- the best is custom 3".

Flywheel-Might as well get a lightweight, if you are boosting later then get a stock one.

I just did the swap in the summer and I used a competition clutch stage 2 with 12lb lightweight flywheel also purchased from competition clutch. Great setup. Don't pair a fidanza flywheel with a CC clutch. And have fun!!!
