Re: what alarm do you use?

Ive installed and uninstalled several different brands of alarms, and they pretty much all work the same way. Some just have more features than others. The ones with the lcd screen on the remote are pretty cool, but expensive. Pursuit, and Viper are good brands.

Re: what alarm do you use?

I have Viper alarm/remote start and I love it but there is a flaw. If your going with remote start, I'd recommend CompuStar if you have a manual car since it's easier to set. If your just getting an alarm, it doesn't really matter. Viper is great and the CompuStar pros are amazing. I'd pay the extra and get a 2 way though.

Re: what alarm do you use?

I am interested in this thread myself. I was just looking into Lo-Jack and for a grand you get Lo-Jack installed and instant alerts if your car is moved without you starting it for 2 years. I like that to be honest, thieves won't have much time to strip anything cuz the cops will already be on'em. I will double the security with an alarm as well so I will watch this thread and see what else is recommended.

Re: what alarm do you use?

when i bought my car it came with a viper alarm. It serves it purpose and i have a the little remote that shows if the car is locked, beeps when my alarm goes off, shows if any door are open etc. the sensitivity is adjustable which is nice. i never bothered to connect the auto start, im not too savvy with electrical things.

Re: what alarm do you use?

I wish I had the money for a VIPER but instead went mid class and got a PRESTIGE 997A. They now came out with a later model which is the PRESTIGE 997C which looks nice and it has both auto start and alarm!!!

I've had no prob with my alarm!!!

Re: what alarm do you use?

If you are in the market for an alarm, by far the most important price of the puzzle is not brand but the install. 95% of alarms out there are made by DEI, Viper for example. A reputable shop that knows what they are doing is a must. Also, don't have any misconceptions of what an alarm system does. It is designed to sound when someone opens a door with disarming it or hits the vehicle hard enough to warrant breaking in. Once the alarm is going off the starter wire is interupted keep it it from being started by turning the ignition. They do not in anyway keep your car from being stolen or broken into. If you have a 5th gen your transponder imobillizer keys is as or more effective than an aftermarket alarm system. If you have a 4 th gen with a standard alarm, I can steal your car. If you have a 5 th gen you can hand me a steel key blank and I can't do anything but push it. Just some food for thought.

Some 4th gen passenger doors can be opened with different Honda keys.. I remember seeing a fix for it somewhere

I had the 2 way alarm in my 4th gen for that reason..its now in my 5th..I'm always near it if it's not in the garage so it alarms ME if someone tries to break in on the remote..

Yeah Viper and DEI

Low jack if you can afford it...or you could get one of those teen tracking devices (gps).. That way you could find out where the car is..just put it somewhere they won't it quickly so you can find them first..

Re: what alarm do you use?

+1 to nevrdun I sell and install only products made by DEI. Install is def most of the battle however some of the cheaper alarms are just plain garbage.

Re: what alarm do you use?

Go some place where their warranty is long. I know Future Shop/BestBuy Canada have lifetime warranty on labor and install. I got mine installed there since I work there.

Re: what alarm do you use?

Warranty is important DEI offers a lifetime warranty on their alarms. I know for sure they offer it on Viper brand not sure about all of them, but I'm sure they do.

I don't think so... I got the Viper 5901 and it only comes with 1 year warranty. Labor is lifetime though.
