1999 VSS Question

I am trying to change a VSS in a 1999 Prelude and I have searched but can't find exactly what I am looking for. I hope someone can give me an idea of how difficult it is, how much time i should expect to put into it, and where the thing is. I have seen a lot of info about the older Preludes but not so many of the newer ones. Can anyone help. I'd appreciate it, since the car is not mine, i need to do as much prep work before I start a project so i don't leave her stranded cause I'm a moron!

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Idk how much this helps but here is where it is. It's on the back side of the tranny and on the engine side so there will be a lot of stuff in your way.

Edit: Actually from underneath the car it would probably be a lot easier. (Just realized where that is under the car)

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Is that the only VSS? I believe there are also speed sensors on the CV shafts and/or steering knuckle/hub. Or are those just ABS rings?

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Nah bro you got the right one. There is a VSS on the trans. I haven't dealt with it in person but I recognize it from a diagram.

I'm just wondering if there are more.

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Thanks, That's great! That will help a lot, is there anyone who has replaced one themselves that can give me an idea of what it entails?

Re: 1999 VSS Question

I had a diagram of how to do it, its included in my cruise control procedures.

It shouldn't be hard, I remember it being like two bolts. Might be in a real hard to get spot though...

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Those are just ABS rings. My ABS light was on and I replaced the axle and the light went away :) Lol. That is the only VSS on the entire car.

Re: 1999 VSS Question

Removal and installation of VSS.

Disconnect 3 pin connector from VSS. (top) Remove two mounting bolts and then VSS. Remove drive link (appears to be a small pin inside VSS.) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Seems easy enough.
