Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

i got a 97 prelude and from this thread i learned about the 5th gen prelude calls, so i went to my local honda dealership and asked them about it, and they said that there is no recall on the Canadian preludes.....i was like wtf really?

My prelude does have the ignition switch issue ill be traveling 60MPH and ALL the car electronics and engine shuts off for a second and comes back up, this only happened with me once since i purchased the car about 3 months ago.

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

My Acura CL also had a recall on a seatbelt issue and they said it didn't effect Canada either. They said to contact the main office. So I'm assuming you should call Honda and not a dealer, then they could maybe book an appointment or something for you.

Its either the ignition thing....

...or your main relay...which wouldn't be covered under the recall.

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

Had that problem with my 5th gen, but it was a recall. I bought the car used in 2008, took it in about 6 months ago for the recall since it wasn't done yet. My car would shut off during a light, going 60mph on the highway, and even merging into lane. It was pretty dangerous and scary at time. Ever since the ignition switch recall, it has never happened again.

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

Did they run your vin? I wanna get my seatbelt fixed but my car was imported over here so I don't know if the recall would include me?

I never even knew about the ignition switch problem though!! How'd I miss that?

Sorry I ment to say seatbelt sensor... or something. The seat belt is fine but there's something that's wrong with the sensor thats keeping my SRS light on. Was reading it over at Acurazine.

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

the ignition problem is the only recall by honda on the 5th gen preludes

seat belts are life time and not a recall, also the SRS (supplement restraint system) light is the air bags light not seat belt light

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

the only thing that honda covers for life on seatbelts is the clip where the seatbelt clip in, not the retractor.....i asked the service advisor cuz i gotta play with my belts for them to retract fully

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

This was what I was quoted from Acurazine

"SRS throws in codes bc of OPDS system faults - its either seat belt buckle or sensor implemented inside back of passanger seat - there was a recall for it"

Re: Went for a Prelude recall to my local honda.....

ignition switch is not that hard to switch out. about $70. disconnect battery! remove panels around steering column. remove screws from backside of key insertion where wires are. follow wires and unplug. reverse. main relays don't usually fail while driving unless someone has tried to solder it and it's really f'd up from that. additionally they usually fail when it's hot out and the heat in the car causes the crack around the terminal solders on the circuit board to separate more and lose a connection. hence the no start when your car has been sitting in the sun all day. you can actually listen for it. it should click once when you turn the key to on and then click again when the check engine light goes off. if you don't hear the clicks tap on it while turning the key on and you can make it last a little longer.

That's for the Acura CL. Not Prelude. It's a known problem, along with their automatic transmissions that fail gear 3 and 4 I believe (on my 3rd tranny)
