what's goin on. i'm a honda enthusiast and a first time Prelude owner. live in NY and i'm flyin to FLA to get it next sat. i can't f'n wait. i was hopin to get some feedback for some questions i had...
1) will the type s air intake give the same deep sound as a sri or cai? of all 3 types which is recommended most - power, price, sexiness? 2) what headers are recommended? 3) what high flow cat is recommended? so this is the set up i am looking to run... plse give me feedback: type s intake with k&n filter, 4-2-1 headers (not sure what brand, any suggestions?), magnaflow or pacesetter high flow cat, apexi world sport exhaust. thanks any feedback would help.... oh yeah - i'm also looking for JDM fog lights - any advise??? i'm looking for a deep sound no whining or tinging. so any suggestions for my set would be great.... Welcome mate. Search button is your friend. Next time we won't be so nice :motz:
Type S intake will not give you any difference in intake noise on it's own. If you remove the intake resonator it will give a nice induction noise, but not an obnoxious one. The post above yours explains in a nutshell what the most cost effective method of getting HP out of an intake. Headers are a good way to make power, but you need to buy a very good (read: expensive) one to make any reasonable gains. The OEM header is good enough for most basic work. Any high flow cat will work as long as the diameters are matched. As for the JDM fog lights, my advice is to start saving, they cost a fair bit.

much appreciated...
thanks for the quick response... how do either of you feel about the apexi world sport exhaust?

Quick suggestion : Shouldn't this be in the "General Topic" section instead of only the "5Gen Topic" section?
but again great post Brash. |

is there any danger of hydrolock with the V2? i have been putting a lot of thought into doing mainly JDM upgrades so i was gonna go with the Type-S intake. who the hell knows????????? anyone runnin a type-s intake? any comments, suggestions, do's/don'ts? too many options out there. if there is a big difference in gains, sounds, recommendations i may stay away from the Type-S.

oh and fyi don't expect much from an intake |

I'm running a Type S, and there was a noticable difference down low, but not huge.
Risk of hydrolock with a V2 is minimal, if you drive into a puddle deep enough to cover it with water you're in pretty big strife anyway.

I was thinking about getting a V2 but I don't really want a short ram. I was looking at cold air intakes and I like K&N so I went to a link that SI speed posted for the K&N Typhoon CAI but I don't think they make em for 5th gen preludes do they? The site said the typhoon wouldn't fit my car. Do you guys know if K&N makes intakes for 5th gens, I have a 01 base. If they don't whats the best CAI, AEM?

They do make a Typhoon for our cars, Thomas97 has one. As for what the "best" intake is, 98vtec's tests show that the "best" one is stock with the resonator removed and a K&N drop in panel filter.

I think he was talking about the type S intake as opposed to the V2, I ordered one of those K&N typhoon CAI's yesterday it's strange the K&N website only lets you order them for preludes up to 1999 if you type in 2000 or 01 it says it won't fit. I hope thats just a glitch because mine is 01. I didn't think they changed anything around too much in the engine from 97 to 01 did they?

Nup, it's a misnomer on the website. Same as all those websites that claim to sell OEM parts for Prelude 97-03.

can someone post a link of where u cna find the V2 intake...thinking of getting it..sounds like a pretty kick a intake. also just to be sure are we talking about a AEM V2 Cold Air Intake System. or something different? Also how much water would be a problem? I live in kansas..we have a 1 month rainy season lol..so kinda wondering..also should you have a spot open on your front end to allow more air flow to it or is it fine taking in air from under wheel?

I just put the K&N cold air intake on my car today and I love it great sound and feel, K&N is a good way to go
seriously people need to stop worrying about hydro locking there engines. You filter needs to be submerged with the throttle open. Just don't trying going mud racing and you'll be fine.
Any opinions about if the AEM V2 is better over the other AEM Cold Air Intakes?
I want a red Cold Air Intake, does the V2 come in any other color besides charcoal? Last edited by Brash; 07-09-2008 at 04:15 AM. Reason: merged |

You have just proven that you didn't read the rest of the thread. :motz:
And no, it doesn't come in any colour other than charcoal. Any other questions about it can be refered to the AEM website. Whic if you don't know it can be found by typing AEM into google.

With all this talk about the K&N Typhoon Kit I went to the website and it says it gives you 7.8 HP. That is the first time Ive every seen any intake system tell you the HP gain.
Does anyone out there know of an intake that gives a greater HP gain? |
7.8HP, really? How did they measure that?
I may well be a little cynical, but without knowing all the details behind that data, I'm calling BS.

this is K&N's selling point for this product. it means it can give you a max of 7.8hp but what they don't tell you is that they mean in conjunction with other mods. i wondered this myself the first time i read that. stick with stock intake, k&n drop in air filter and than remove your resonator. that is your best bet. look at the hp gains.

Yeah says Estimated Horsepower Gain: 7.8 HP @ 6800 RPM. I was also wondering about the stock intake with the K&N air filter with the resonator removed. My first question with that is what is a resonator? Yes I know Im a newbie, lol. My second question is are you sure that this is the best method for HP? I hope it is because I just bought my car on Friday and I dont have much money now.
The resonator is the black box looking thing underneath your intake filter housing, the only reason it's there is to minimize the noise from the intake; and it does so by restricting air flow. Removing res. = better air flow.
The reason we know why stock w/ K&N drop in minus res. is ONE of the best methods is because Blake(98vtec) dyno'd different intakes, such as CAI(cold air intake), SRI(short ram intake), stock with K&N drop in, Type S, etc to see which one is the best. |
Thanks for the info. In the dyno test blake did it just says stock. Is that with the stock intake and resontor removed and K&N filter or just stock all around.
Affirmative.
