Here's a link to it below. You guys think its worth recovering this prelude? It's pretty beat. I'm sure the guy would lower the price a bit more also. I'm really tempted at the moment though since i really want to turbo but i have an SH at the moment and i'll be limited.

[For Sale] 1997 Prelude 5sp. price drop $850 firm.

Looks decent. A lot of body work ahead of you. Are those 4th gen seats?

Re: Could i get some serious opinions on buying this 5th gen

For $850, I would buy it for parts... Going to blow some serious cash into fixing that car. Seems pretty beat up... For sure the engine is shot that you probably can't repair. The guys saying he doesn't know much about it and that it's his friends. I'm not exactly sure if I believe that...

Heeeeeck yeah if you have confidence in your mechanic skills you could easily turn a profit on that. You could pick 5 random in-good-condition parts off that car and sell em for as much as he's selling the whole car for.

Front seats, tranny (assuming it works like he says), and full doors. Bam.

i was looking at this too. it seems like not too bad of an idea. you should be able to at least make your money back with parts. im sure someone will want that interior.

Re: Could i get some serious opinions on buying this 5th gen

I only buy it IF the car has a good engine and a good transmission ...
The body work is a pain in the a$$ but if you want a prelude on a budget this is your start..
btw are you a student ?
can you afford more cash?

if the motor is good then ya a transmission is no big thing, main thing is the motor its worth fixing up for boost.

Re: Could i get some serious opinions on buying this 5th gen

The exhaust along with the few mods worth 850. Cars scrapped tho. Needs a LOT of work. U could buy it and part it out tho. Really all up to u man. I wouldn't personally. The economy isn't the greatest and from personal experience buyin stuff to flip can leave u stranded at times.

Re: Could i get some serious opinions on buying this 5th gen

wow, someone really beat it up. i would buy it for a project or to part it...and is it a base or SH? he says base but with the spoiler (just a quick glance at the pics) i'd say its a SH. what would be your long term goal for it? if you want a project/race car then sure get it and take your time, but if you want to repair it and sell/drive it as a DD, thats a risky thing. who knows what they did to it...good luck though

Re: Could i get some serious opinions on buying this 5th gen

I will go against the grain here and say I would not touch it for free and here is why.
I am a perfectionist and would have to restore the Prelude.
I do not know what your intentions are, but say you want it to look and run very well again, it will cost you much more then it will ever be worth.
For example, I bought a 90 Corvette that had 90,000 miles, a professionally rebuilt, very strong engine and transmission with no oil leaks. The body was straight, no need for body work. But the Corvette had not been garaged and needed alot of restoring to the interior, tires, and wheels. Paid $6500. By the time I finished and had it the way I wanted it without any engine, transmission, or body work, I had $12,000 in the Corvette and could not get my money back out of it. If I had to end up putting more dollars in the engine or paint job, WOW, just had to stop dumping dollars.
Final conclusion: sold the money hogging Corvette, bought a high mileage 2001 Prelude that had been taken very good care of, garaged, great maintenance records, and have a great car that has essentially cost me nothing for over two years. The Preludes are great looking and driving sports cars, but just like any sports car, takes a great deal of time and money to fix ones in bad condition into something you can be proud of.
Just my opinion from my experience.

Goes the same for every car. No matter how much money you throw into it. You'll get less then half of it back.
