Re: Maaco good painters?

I think each maaco is independently owned and operated, so the quality of their work would vary.

Re: Maaco good painters?

your best is to get a couple of quotes ,and then depending on the work needed ,you strip some parts of the car parts that way is less masking for the shop and just be aware that you would be putting it together ,also remember you get what you paid for so the paint will fade sooner then you think ,and body will crack if not done correctly .

Re: Maaco good painters?

"Maaco" and "good" should never be used in the same sentance, unless that sentance is "Maaco IS NOT good," or, "Maaco does a good job of f**king up".

Re: Maaco good painters?

This has been discussed. Maaco is, according to popular opinion: horrible. However, it seems that not all maaco places are complete crap.

It's a roll of the dice, and the odds are not in your favor.

Save your money until you get $2000. With paint you pay what you get. Don't go to Maaco. I heard bad things about them. Look for a reputable shop and go from there. A paint job for $600 will not be a good on in the long run. Good luck in whatever you do.

Re: Maaco good painters?

I've heard the main problem with Maaco is their prep work. If you HAVE to go to Maaco, I'd prep it all yourself. With that being said, I'd highly recommend you save up and get a good paint job from a reputable shop.

Same here. I've heard their biggest problem is prep. If you prep it yourself, I can't see spraying a car to be difficult.

Re: Maaco good painters?

i have a couple friends who went through them they are good painters yes as far as how they treat it after it is painted is not good they let my friends cars sit outside instead of in drying booths which resulted in dirt in the paint if your going for a basic gloss paint go ahead but if your going with a really nice paint dont do it your money will be wasted

Re: Maaco good painters?

So I gotta put my two cents in. Maaco.....not so good. If you are like me and have to do something when you set your mind to it....I would say that you should do it yourself. You could prob do every bit as good a job as they can. The issue is with their prep work. The prep work on a paint job is the most important. If you decide to do anything on your own I would study up on how to do the prep work. If you have any questions about anything I am more than willing to talk you through what I can. I have some years of experience in a paint shop. I agree with most others here. Save if you can and pay to have it done right.

Re: Maaco good painters?

I would never get my whole car painted at maaco. I would however let them paint things like a front lip, not a whole bumper.

I have heard that some maaco paints jobs aren't bad, but i still wouldn't risk my money on the whole car.

Re: Maaco good painters?

If they don't fcuk it up it'll look good... For about 6 months

Macco paint jobs don't last... I think they don't use enough clear coat or the paint is the pre mixed with clear and the cars end up fading in under a year..

Someone else mentioned that they don't do good prep work and this is also true..along with overspray and orange peel.

Do yourself a favor and wait.. If u want.. Research online and learn how to sand and prime your car.. It's really not hard just takes some time and elbow grease.. You could roll around with black primer until you can afford to have it sprayed..

So... A 500 dollar paint job/macco won't be worth it..learn how to prep and prime your car to save money

Re: Maaco good painters?

It isn't difficult to do a basic paint job. Metallics get a little tricky, and I don't even attempt pearls. A simple base/clear job is pretty straightforward. The biggest problem is with black and white. Black because it shows every imperfection in the body. White is a problem because it is difficult to gauge how much coverage you're making.

Re: Maaco good painters?

They are high volume shops and simply cannot spend the time to make a good product.
Save your money, go to a reliable shop with good marks, been in business for years, and gives at least a 3 year warranty. Low cost paint jobs may look good for a year, but good paint jobs will pay for themselves years down the road.
