5th gen acting funny. HELP?

Ok so here goes. ive had this problem for a while now. The lude feels under powered through the rpm's but when it crosses into vtec its gets really bad. Vtec does't really do anything but make a noise and its hard to climb rpm's when in vtec. In 4th and 5th gear the motor struggles to cross 6000 rpm. The engine sounds like its really struggling.

The modifications to the car are as follows:
OBD1 ECU (p28)
Neptune Rtp
PLX Wideband
Hytech replica header.
Custom 2.5 exhaust
S2 Intake Mani
AEM SRI
NGK Plug Wires
MSD Cap, Rotor, Coil
walbro 255 fuel pump
Dsm 450cc Injectors

Ive tried to fix the problem by checking or replacing the following things:
Plugs/Wires
Map/Tps/Knock/Iat sensors
FPR
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Timing (no skipped teeth)
Compression is fine (195-200)
Yes ive checked my oil
Im not running rich or lean
Im using stock h22 ignition timing for my tune.

Any Ideas guys?

i have not cleaned the solenoid. I was under the impression that the solenoid would either work or not work at all.

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

It might be something to check, like, after my friend cleaned mine up, no more crap, it went straight thro my rpms, and had my power back,
i'll see if i can find a written article about it,

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

Look for a GREEN sensor on the left side of the motor beneath the distributor!!! Unscrew the 3 10mm bolts and inside will be a screen that needs to be clean. Use throttle body cleaner spraycan to clean the dirt n grim off of the gasket and retrace your steps of what you took off and you should be good to go with your VTEC issue!!!

There's a write up cleaning it in here....jus dun have the time to search right now!!!

G-luck

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

It doesnt mention it but use Throttle body cleaning spray and clean out the dirt build up on the gasket!!! Then if that persist then check your VTEC solenoids themselves!!! They look like those cylinder nub on it!!! Might be broken!!!

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

no luck on cleaning the solenoid. it wasnt even dirty.

does anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking it might be my distributor going bad on me. I cant adjust ignition timing with neptune. I can be driving and set the ignition timing 20 deg more advanced and absolutely nothing will happen.

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

i dont know what the pressure is. no shops around have the right adapter to hook to the rail. i assume its ok however as i have replaced the filter, pump, and fpr. I can also see my air/fuel ratio, which is where it should be.

The way i see it, if im getting good afr's then the fuel pressure must be 'ok'. correct me if im wrong but that seems logical in my head.

Re: 5th gen vtec acting funny.

check your wiring for the dist. and vtec. check for continuity all the way to the ecu and then check to see if any of the terminals are loose in the connectors. you can try crimping them down a little to make sure they get a good connection just make sure not to overdo it and that the wire doesn't push out the back when you plug them back in. also make sure there's not a bunch of corrosion on the terminals as this increases resistance. also make sure the wire is not breaking where it connects to the terminal.
