why the hell!! 97 SH

why do i burn so much oil? i burn a liter like in 2 weeks, i just purchased that lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer to see if that helps, my car runs perfectly fine no other issue just oil burning.

MODS:
h22a4 (Short ram intake, skunk2 manifold, coil overs, dc headers)
The car only has 130K on it which is like 65k miles

i dont think that will be a good idea lol, i just put in Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer and 30min or driving the engine felt much free like i can feel the pistons running smooth, lets see if it slows down oil consumption, i know for sure my seals are bad but aint got the $$ to rebuild or buy a new motor.

Re: why the hell!! 97 SH

FRM sleeves drink oil. And if you know your seals are bad, that's not helping. Oil consumption on H22s is natural, but I never went through that much.

Re: why the hell!! 97 SH

i was looking at the reviews for that Restorer engine restorer that seals up any leaking pistons seals and helps increase compression and reduces engine oil consumption aka oil burning, what do you guys think about it? because right now these small gimmic products is my only source for a fix i know its not gonna last long but it should help a little

Restore Engine Restorer

I agree totally with FRM sleeves letting oil by and it is pretty normal ! I was going through a lot of oil too when I first bought it, but most of mine were leaks, I changed all the seals and resealed the oil pan and now I just have a little bit of normal oil consumption, prob like 1/2 quart in 3000 miles.

Re: why the hell!! 97 SH

I had piston rings, valve seals, and cam seals replace on my h22 before the 70k mark under warranty. I was burning at least that much oil in that amount of time before the repairs.

there is nothing you will do to help the motor without making the necessary repairs. if you can't afford the repairs, you better save for a new motor

Re: why the hell!! 97 SH

First off, check for leaks. Don't just look on the ground, as it may not be there. Look at the block on all sides and the top of the trans. Look for black sludgy buildup. Thats a motor oil leak mixing with crud on your engine. Then get underneath of it and look around your oil filter, by the seam between the engine block and the transaxle, the back of the block, etc. See if you see any thin, slightly brown oily fluid. Thats motor oil.

If you have a leak, fix it. If anything, it may not fix your entire oil consumption issue but it should help. Here is a helpful link on oil leaks. The Official Oil Leak Guide - Preludepower.com

Also, when you start up the car, does any blue smoke come out of the exhaust? If so, then you have piston ring blow-by. Means your piston rings are shot. Is it excessively black and sooty? Could be an indication that your valve seals are shot.

Lucas oil stabilizer, restore, none of that junk will fix your problem. At best its a temporary fix. At worst it may actually do more harm than good. To fix a problem you need to diagnose the issue and go in and repair it. Dumping additives and other junk that autozone sells into your gas tank or in with your oil is not going to fix it.

Re: why the hell!! 97 SH

also see if your smoking out the back good sign of rings , if not then maybe a leak and just not landing on the ground could be hitting the exhaust and just burning off there
