random shut down of h22

I've owned my first honda for a week. So I don't really know these cars. Its a 97 prelude,180k, h22, 5 speed, bone stock. I brought the car home and it was sitting at an idle. I had brought everyone out to show it off and it died.. not a great first impression. It started right back up no problem. I didn't think too much of it until tonight. I was doing 70 on the high way and it shut off. Again it started right back up and I kept driving, it did it again with the same results 2 miles down the road. WHY? I don't think its anything to do with the drivetrane. A security sensor? The keys magnetic sensor? I'm just not sure. But, I'm sure someone knows just what the problem is so any advise would be great.
Thank You, Keith

Re: random shut down of h22

Check to see if the ignition wire recall was done on the prelude. Call Honda tell them about the recall # (google it) and your symptoms. They shouldn't charge you a dime to fix the problem, and only takes 1hr max. While there complain about your seat belts not retracting, and they might replace those as well since they have lifetime warranty.

Re: random shut down of h22

yes most likely its the ignition switch. same happened to me on the freeway like 3 times and i was clueless til i found out about the recall. just call honda and ask if the ignition recall has been done on the car. if not then take it and they'll fix it in about a hr.
