Icon9 1997 Auto trans Female HELP ADVICE OPNIONS Tranny Motor Mounts Alternator

History:

Purchased on September 2003 @ 90k .. tranny died July 2004 on the freeway !! [no sign of tranny failure at the time] .. rebuilt the rebult tranny !! no wonder it was cheap .. salvaged too .. cheap father LoL .. They gave me a five year guarantee [shop closed 3 years ago]

Notes:

soOo0o now I am hearing different opinions from mechanic friends .. but I am hoping some one can help me out here

Another thing .. I read the FAQ thread already ..

Problems:

[auto tranny] On first gear when it gets around 3 rpms it will jump to around 3.5-4 rpms for a while then shift gears .. it will do it for the second gear as well [it will rev high then shift] Also it kicks meaning when it shifts the car will shake with a loud thump .. third and fourth gear are fine ..

It doesn't always shift hard like this all the time .. I notice this when I encounter too many stop signs ..

When I come to a complete stop it shifts hard into first gear as well with a loud thump =( motor mount ??

I change the tranny fluid and it still happens but it does rememdy it a little ..

someone told me its the motor mounts which makes the car shake while shifting into gear .. true ?? or is it the tranny failing ?? someone told me it could be my tranny mount as well as my motor mount ??

someone else told me the weird reving is the alternator failing .. I thought the alternator dealt with the battery ?? Although I do need to change the belts and check the timing belt ..

important note: these people never drove my car or checked under my hood .. just gave me their opinion ..

please please please someone help me !! Thank you so much in advance :D

99.9% your tranny is going again, don't attempt to rebuild it again it's not worth it. the loud thumping is your tranny slamming into gear, the revving is it slipping.
if you can at all get rid of the car somehow, either trade it in and buy new, sell it, or turn it into a 5 speed if you really want to keep it.
there really is no other solution that is going to be worth your time or money. whatever you do, do it fast and refrain from diving it as it's only going to get worse till you can't drive it at all and then your screwed.

Manual swap ftw. If you havent learned yet, you need to anyway. Plus, you will be happier in the long run- faster car, better fuel mileage, less problems.

Re: 1997 Auto trans Female HELP ADVICE OPNIONS Tranny Motor Mounts Alternator

Thanks so much everyone. I hear so much mix information I don't know what to believe. Now I know.

I know how to drive a manual. I learned on a stage two clutch and a lighten fly wheel if that means anything to anyone. LoL I really hate driving anything besides that because I get paranoid of stalling.

I'm thinking of converting it into 5 speed. About 3 years ago someone offered to do it for 2,000 and now my co worker will do it for me for a grand and 40 haha

thanks again !!

Re: 1997 Auto trans Female HELP ADVICE OPNIONS Tranny Motor Mounts Alternator

your afraid of stalling anything other than a stage two clutch and a lightened flywheel? stage 2 should be harder to drive than a regular clutch...

You could try flushing the tranny, cleaning the sensors, and a cooler to make it last a little longer.
