Back passenger side seat is WET?

When someone sits in the back seat of my prelude, passenger side, their butt gets soak. I cant find out whats wrong. If you touch it immediately, it is not wet, but if you sit in it for a bit it gets pretty wet. The liquid has no scent.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

the drain hoses that go from your sunroof to your quarter panels are probably clogged or came out of place. I would check that first. Usually the cause of wet back seats.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

Check the seal of your sunroof. Make sure it's closing all the way. Mine never leaked but I had wet seat once, (same side) turns out I didn't close my sunroof all the way as I thought.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

open your trunk and lift up the trunk mat. Do you see any water clogged up in or around the spare tire? This used to always happen to me. My back seats used to get soaked like crazy. It used to even reach my front mat thats how bad it was. Well, what i did was that I found some rubber drain holes under the spare that it used when this happens. I also poked a small little hole around where the spare tire bolt is so it can drain out any excess water that gets leaked into the trunk and on to the back seats.

well I've heard alot of luders say that they're leakage comes from having busted tailight seals. It seems like a really common problem to 5th gens. After the water gets soaked under the trunk everytime you brake the water would get absorbed into the rear seats.

I think it's a Honda thing. My 4th gen has had the same issues, so has my integra.

BINGO you both got it! The taillight gaskets leak after the rubber gets old. There is other threads on this already. Change the gasket and no more leak.
This is an Excellent DIY of the whole procedure and then I added the DIY of the amber turn signal lenz delete that is also an easy mod to do since you already have the taillights out.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

I agree that it could be the tail light gaskets but in my black forth gen and both tegs I have had were also leaking from the clogged hoses too.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

^^Yes I have also seen plenty of different makes and models that have wet carpets due to clogged sun roof drains.

But if the front passenger side floor is wet the most probable cause is a clogged a/c drain hose. Blow compressed air into hose under car and all the stuck water will pour right out.

But from my own experience if the trunk has puddles in it, it is coming from the taillights and getting to the back seat.

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

hah i just got my lude about 8 months ago but i didnt have the money to start fixing it until right now.. there was a ton of moisture inside and i had to use some cleaner to demold the inside of the car on the seats, belts and other. i was wondering how so much got in even though there is a small seal issue on my drivers side door and a tiny one in my sun roof.. but this makes tons of sense.. thanks guys

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

I've got the same problem but with mine the rear seals were changed but it still leaks into the trunk then from there to the rear seat on the passenger side. If I were to check the sunroof drain tubes which panels would I need to remove?

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

I've got this problem real bad. I just checked under the spare tire and sure thing there is a LOT of water under there. Smells bad too. I'm afraid this will wreak my back seats with mold.

I'm going to check the sunroof drain hoses and the tail-light seals, and I might try poking a hole in the spare well to allow that nasty liquid to drain.

I'll post back with my results...

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

Find a hill and park your car (or use a jack)

Open your sunroof - CAREFULLY pour some water into the internal ring around the sunroof.

If your front end is elevated - water should drain through the tubes and come out from behind your rear wheels.

If your rear end is elevated - water should drain through the tubes and come out the front of the car.

To clean the tubes - find the ends and make sure nothing is blocking them. If water does not come out than you know you've got a leak. i'll get you pictures - give me 10 minutes

Re: Back passenger side seat is WET?

Drivers side rear and front

Passenger side rear and front

Pour the watter in the tray that is underneath the sunroof when you open it

I just so happen to have my 'lude gutted while I do a few odds and ends. So this was rather convenient lol. You can eaisly remove those hoses pictured at the sunroof from the inside. They're only held on with the clips shown - IF they are clogged just pull the clip and clean it out. If by chance it's on the other end, the back hoses run directly behind your rear wheels as I stated in my last post. Removing your trunk liner will give you access to them if need be, or just look under the bumper :P

The front ones.... well that's a bit more work to get into....

Something else you may want to consider is the weather stripping around the trunk itself. I just removed mine and completely cleaned it. Then used some silicone around the edge for a better seal when I re-installed it.

Hope this helps!
