Idle rpm ?'s

So I have an automatic, and I remember a couple months ago when I idle, my rpm is about a bit over 1000rpm, recently I just noticed that its 500rpm when at idle?

I'm not sure about idles, but is it good or bad that my idles are are lower? Why is it always lower now?

Re: Idle rpm ?'s

Pesky paid staff...they're never to be found, and all the volunteers are doing something else on nice weekends besides sitting by their computers....

Warm idle in neutral is 700 rpm (plus or minus 50), although the scale on the low end of the tach isn't all that easy to read -- it could look like 500 on the dash. If the air con is on, or the car's in gear, or you're running a heavy electrical load, the idle will kick up, so 1000 doesn't really indicate a problem.
