Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

Well, this has been a longtime dilemma that i have faced. I've been shopping around for foglights and i have yet to choose one haha, so like everything else on my car i am coming to you guys. and no i dont have a personal preference and i've seen them both on the 5th gens.

price is not a factor since the oem ones i found are at a junkyard and they do work btw.

should i get the oem style foglights:

or the ebay style ones:

The bottom ones are OEM...I've got them. I got yellow bulbs and tinted them yellow. Look nice with my HIDs.

Re: Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

Both are OEM..

Top picture is USDM OEM

Bottom is JDM OEM (Most likely a replica)

The JDM fog lights are more popular, but real ones are expensive.

The problem with JDM replicas (At least the V2 replicas) is that the housing is plastic (mine are :() and because they are plastic you can't run HIDs in them..

Authentic JDM foglight housings are metal. But usually run around 400$ I think for a pair + harness'.. at least last time I checked they were.

Re: Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

I bought these: 97-01 HONDA PRELUDE JDM BB6 FOG LIGHTS KIT 98 99 00

They may not be "OEM JDM", but they're close as hell. They've got a metal back, and they come with everything you need for a clean install; they even come with the on/off button and box that holds it. Seriously, I've had people ask me where I got my "JDM OEM Fogs"...They were shocked when I said they were some 3rd-party brand.

Yeah those are the V1 replicas, I am pretty sure..

Most replica kits are pretty decent, the lense probably won't be as good/clear, but thats just part of the trade off.

If you are going to buy JDM style fog lights, find METAL HOUSINGS. That is my biggest regret.

dude i got the same as u from ebay, , they fit perfectly, but OMGWTFBBQ the wiring harness they send all hella wrong. all the connections had to be modified. if u go on line and research DIY pics, its WAY different. the harnesses at least. there is only supposed to be 2 harnesses. external and internal. they are supposed to connect to an orange cable yr lude already has. these dnt have that. the external wire has 2 grounds, when its supposed to have jst one, and that 3rd cable u gotta run it through yrself and its jst problem after problem. took me all dam day to hook em up and to figure out WTF was going on.

Just putting this out there but if you have plastic housing they arent V2...Either someone jipped you or you are confused. The V1s have plastic and the V2s are legit oem quality. IMO, go with ebay V2. Easiest way to tell from a glance is that the seller will include a button with plastic harness to replace your original button trim. In addition, the fogs have bulb shrouds, whereas the V1 did not. FTR, the V2s are metal and legit as fu*k, I've heard of plently of people running HIDS in them with no problems whatsoever.

EDIT:
^^ go with these they are legit stuff, K2 is the same company I got mine from and I haven't had a single issue in a full year. EXCEPT that you should replace the bulbs they come with before you install them. They're absolute garbage and WILL blow in about a month of use.

EDIT 2:

This is true, the harnesses they made are fairly retarted. Easily fixed though. Take the exterior harness that they intend to be ran through the fenders, cut a large portion out, put a male and female bullet connector onto the cut ends. Then simply plug the existing plug into interior harness plug, and the bullet connector into the factory pre-run( the orange wire). And repeat for the exterior harness. Some splicing would also help to clean things up. And on the note of grounds, why have one when you can have 2? That isnt a big deal at all...

Ok I'm done now, seriously. If you have questions, ask lol

I just had it backwards then, I wasn't too sure, I bought my fogs over a year ago and that was the last time I searched or did any thinking about them. My bad :)

Thanks for the correction though

Re: Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

If money isnt a factor then I'd go with the JDM OEM fogs!!!

personally I like the yellow fog theme bc it helps in the snow season!!!

So I have yellow Lamin-X on it along with 3000K 55W ballast n that sh*t gives off that golden touch!!!

JDM FTW!!!!

Re: Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

I've never really liked the usdm ones but I'm sure the quality and output is top notch

The V2 eBay ones are the only replica you should get from what I've seen. I wanted to get the jdm ones but for the price the v2 is a better deal.

Lazer.. So only the V2's come with fog light switch and cover correct? The ones I'm looking at come with them so just wanna make sure they are the good ones. The harness does look like donkey balls though..

Re: Fog lights (oem vs ebay)

Yeah if money isn't an issue then you should get the jdm fogs. They have came down on price a little bit since the replicas came out. You can find them for $250-350 used (probably lights only) or you could find someone on here selling them for probably a better deal

The jdm ones are glass so.. You could put in h.i.d.s no prob BUT if something breaks them it'll cost more to replace

I have heard people have put h.i.d.s in the V2's but I wouldn't do it unless I saw proof lol

Function > Fashion...Fogs aren't even supposed to be HIDs. Keep HIDs for your headlights, and keep the fogs that yellowish color.

Thats why people put HIDs in though, to get a more true yellow color...

EDIT:

By the way, I GOT RAPED when I bought my fog lights... I never bothered checking ebay, I got the crappy plastic replica kit, it didnt come with that legit button holder, and they aren't metal, and I paid like 100$+
