Re: Type S header and downpipe

I would just get a new cat...Less work is needed with this method. Alternately, you could get a test pipe welded/made for you. Test pipes aren't legal, but they improve your exhaust flow, and make your car a little louder/deeper sounding. Make sure you get a new catalytic converter for when you take it to get the emissions checked though...

Re: Type S header and downpipe

A new cat would be ideal, but I wouldn't know which one to get. anyone running one with the type s header? some detail would be nice (i.e. size, part number, place to buy). no test pipe yet, just want to get it on the road, SOON. The car came with a DC header system and I'm tired of it.

Re: Type S header and downpipe

Youre going to have a hell of a time finding a cat if your current one isn't working. Obviously the stock cat isn't compatible and Im sure youre not going to hit up ebay and find a Type S cat. Know what I mean? I would take it to a good muffler shop and have them mod your cat to work. If absolutely have to mod the down pipe but modifiying rare parts should be a last resort.

Re: Type S header and downpipe

IIRC the Type S downpipe & cat flanges are opposite (turned 180 degrees) of the USDM TypeSH downpipe/cat. If this is indeed true, then you can have a mufflershop cut off the flange on your cat and reweld it back on turned around 180 degrees.

Re: Type S header and downpipe

my current cat is working, it just won't fit the type S downpipe...right now I just put on my DC header TEMPORARILY, until I can find a way to fit the type S. my buddy does a lot of fab work so I may have him weld a new connector to the Type S so it fits a new cat. time will tell

Re: Type S header and downpipe

TheJGB3 speaks the truth, I just went through this process with my JDM SI VTEC 4G which has a Fujutsubo manifold (header).

I'm pretty sure you mean inverted, not 180. right? 180 would flip the flange left to right, inverted would flip top to bottom....correct me if I'm wrong. so from all things said so far; mod the cat, not the downpipe right? This is going to be a free welding mod, I like free.

I meant that the flange is turned 180 degrees, so the top is the bottom, and the bottom is the top.

Re: Type S header and downpipe

Hi james6183. I think you should buy a new cat converter that fits to your Type S header and downpipe. That's the good idea for me. :D
