So I sent my 5th gen to get the timing belt and water pump done by two local guys. I get there just as they are raping up and about to start the car. So they go to start the car and its not timed properly. They shut it off almost Instantly. The guy said its a half tooth out of time. My question is? is my motor screwed?

Re: please read

I would say no your not screwed. Because, a)they turned it off real quick and b) how else would you troubleshoot timing issues other than by turning the engine on?

I always thought you had to use a light gun and some sort of magic. Besides if its "1/2 a tooth off", those marks could still have been used and it could still be off.

On an interferance engine the valves will hit the pistons 500-800 times when running 500-800 rpm if the timing is off far enough. but only being half a tooth off you should be alright, but you'll find out.

Yup. When they get the car running and you hear knocking, then make sure they buy you a new engine bro.

it would hit that many times if they kept it going for a minute. he said it was off almost instantly.
