Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

Hey guys, my A/C compressor just blew and the belt snapped. Since winter is about to start here in Utah, I am wanting to bypass the A/C for the winter? Any of you guys done this before? I just want to know what size belt I should get, I can do the rest.
Thanks.

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

Ah, not quite. The belt that drives the A/C compressor is also the alternator drive belt.

Anyway go to napa, advanced auto, etc. and ask for a A/C bypass serpentine belt for your year, make and model car. They have them you don't need to size it.

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

ok so I went to auto zone and checker and they both said they don't know what belt to give me but said I could measure the distance with some yarn or string and they could work with that. Well I won't have time to do that for some time so have any of you done this or know what that distance is? I need my car back up and running soon!! I just got way too much crap to do to deal with all this stuff!!! Any help would be great!!!

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

not too concerned about the compressor right now cause it's winter, plus i am totally broke so a belt is an easy cheap fix.

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

just delete AC. to measure the belt all u have to do is grab a piece of rope iwrap it around the crank pulley n alt pulley. Tie it where the ends meet and go to ur local parts store and tell em u need a belt that size. thats what i did when i deleted AC

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

I'm genuinly surprised they didn't have one, or couldn't look one up. On my cavalier when I needed an A/C bypass belt I just walked in and asked them and they handed me one. Wierd.

Re: Belt to bypass the A/C Compressor

I was thinking that too after he first said he couldn't get it, but wasn't sure whether or not all 5th gens had A/C.
