160k miles 97 SH

I've been in the used car market for over a month now. At first I wanted a Cherokee since I thought that'd be practical for the winter, but then after test driving them I realized I hate the feel of them and they are very expensive for what they are (a box with tons of miles).

I looked at a few different vehicles, but came across a Prelude on Craigslist. I test drove it and wow, it was a nice drive. It wasn't a SH, but for a NA 2.2 it sure was peppy. I didn't buy that car.

Today someone posted a 97 SH Prelude on Craigslist. It has 160k miles, but looks very clean. He's asking for $2700 firm, which I'll give if all is well.

Do these cars uphold Honda reliability? I know if you beat the piss out of any car it will be unreliable, but in general do they last a long time? The craigslist ad says that I'd probably need to replace the throttle position sensor and there is a whine from the power steering pump. Are these major or minor fixes?

I'm going to call the seller tomorrow and go check it out. I want to buy it tomorrow. I hope to join your community soon! I don't want to mod this car at all as it will be my winter car and overall secondary car, but those Mugen parts look good. Some MB Battle wheels would also look pretty nice with a decent drop. mmmm. lol hopefully I behave myself.

No input? I'm going to look at the car today and want to buy it today...

Is the power steering pump thing an expensive fix?

The PS pump runs about over $100. You can do it yourself and it's an easy fix!!!

Thanks! Then I'm so buying it!

I'll post pics of it if I buy it in the pic section along with my primary car.

Thats a pretty high amount of miles. Make sure you change all the fluids when you get it to be on the safe side.

Re: 160k miles 97 SH

I bought it. It has a few issues, but it was cheap. The TPS sensor needs to be changed, the PS pump needs to be replaced, and there's a vibration coming from the back at high speeds so that could be a number of things. Exterior is very clean though. It might need a new clutch too. I think $500 or so will get it up to par, and maybe some snow tires.

I see you have a 2010 Evo X^ I'm fishstix on evom and evoxforums. Look me up

Re: 160k miles 97 SH

Although it may not matter now but....

TPS sensor and P/S pump is a fairly easy fix.

As for your question about their reliability...well thats harder to say. My one buddy once said to me "they are really fun to drive, but really expensive to keep running." So far for me that has proven true. Seems like I encounter a new problem every other week. 160,000 miles doesn't necessarily bode well either, mine has about the same and well, it's not exactly reliable. However your car might not have the curse, so chin up.

How much is a new PS pump? I'd like to order one today.

If you guys could link me to a site that sells it that'd be awesome.

Cool did you get a new one or a used one? I still haven't changed it out yet. A new unit costs about $500.
