Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

I'm shopping for a keyless entry/alarm for my 98 Type SH. I'd like to know what you guys have and or what problems you've had. Most importantly what do you recommend.
The 98 didn't come stock w/the keyless and i'd like to get the trunk going automatically too. The doors have the power lock actuator but the trunk doesn't have one. The only way the trunk opens is from the latch in the cabin.
I've tried reading around, i understand the accord has a trunk actuator, would that need to be installed? Or would a system come with one?
I figure an alarm costs pretty much the same w/or w/out keyless entry. So its just a matter of picking a good one.
I'm not going to install it myself so i'm thinking Bestbuy, Cartoys or some place that includes install. Any suggestions/advice?

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

I want to stay away from remote start systems. Call me old fashioned but i don't like the idea of someone being able to start my car without the key. Plus i've heard of issues wiring up manual tranny to auto start, people like to void warranties, doesn't work right after a while that sort thing. Plus i'd like to keep things under $400 if possible.
Would a place like Car Toys install the actuator along with the alarm/keyless if i gave it to them to install?
I'd like to mention i'm in the Denver metro area if that helps.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Scytek I would suggest is the best I've ever had on any of my cars.

GPS tracking option, window roll up, temp control, remote start, auto remote start at set temp, starter cut off, knock sensor, glass sensor, tilt sensor, and trunk popper aux point. Accepts random code generated from honda's key system so no one can start the car without the proper remote.

You can use 98 accord trunk pooper if you want it too look flawless. All this for less then $400 except for gps tracking system cost more and needs subscription

Yea the trunk popper has a built in solenoid and still works with the side release latch next to the drivers seat.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Used to be a best buy install manager. They pretty much exclusively use viper, which is a directed product...which honestly is pretty much the best. That said if you are only looking for keyless, it's not going to make much of a difference.

If you can find a bestbuy with an old 350hv in stock, I'd go with that...decent alarm with keyless and option for trunk. Most bbys will install the actuator for free. Make sure they know how to wire a relay lol.

AND...you sure it doesn't have an actuator anyway? A lot of times if they have the option factory they will have it and the wiring installed...just no button. My 90 accord only had the lever up front...but had the trunk pop wire in back loomed and taped up...same as the door locks with harness hidden under the carpet...lol

If that's the case they can grab that wire and use a relay.

Make sure you check, because if they find it be sure they will still charge you for the actuator and install, then hook it up factory and keep the actuator you bought lol.

To my knowledge NONE of the ludes ever came with an actuator for the trunk....pooper.

pooper, hehe.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Hey Manager for a custom audio shop in Texas here. If you want JUST keyless entry with no alarm I would suggest the Viper 211 HV. Its extremely basic lock and unlock. Now if you wanted to go with an alarm for added insurance I've been selling the hell out of the Viper 350 Plus security system. I sell the keyless installed for 150 and the alarm installed for about 200-250. If you need more info PM me brudda.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Funny could have sworn i saw a write about that trunk popper/pooper now i can't find it anywhere. Murphy's Law i suppose

So what are some things to check when your ready to leave the shop after install? What is something that you smacked your forehead and said "WHY DIDN'T CHECK THAT?!?! IT WAS SOOO OBVIOUS!!!"

I've noticed install costs about $150 at BB or Car Toys, so i'll probably go Viper since the combined costs are about the same.

Should i buy the actuator and screw it in an leave it mostly unhooked up or can the shop do it all once i provide the parts? The shop is most likely going to be BB.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Well it depends if its alarm or keyless entry. If its just the keyless just make sure it locks and unlocks both doors, and if your adding the trunk pop solenoid make sure it pops thats it. If you go with an alarm arm it wait about 45 seconds then tap the drivers window with your palm increasing the strength to get a feel for the sensitivity. Sensitivity is personal preference just dont make it too much or a cat will set it off. I would also recommend letting the shop install the actuator entirely I hate it when people half install stuff and generally charge a bit more.

Re: Recommend me a good keyless entry system!

Ok last question regarding this. I keep seeing actuator and solenoid used interchangably on various forums. Is the part # 08e49-s84-100h the only thing i'll need for the trunk popper?

Yes the trunk popper, wires, and an alarm is all that is needed.

If you order the popper from Honda it comes with special zip tie and a relay.
