Buying a lude

I've been shopping around for a prelude for quite some time now. I think i found one that I'll probably pick up anything to look for specifically when purchasing these vehicles. Thanks..

Well I assume it's a 5th gen. Make sure it's not a lemon from Katrina. You can look at the block and see if there's been salt water damage or not. Common problems in 5g's is the "oh sh!t" handle comes looks, but can easily be tightened down and it's common to have to feed your seatbelt back into place. Check around the 1/4 panel for rust. Hondas are notorious for rusting in that area.

Yes it's a 5th gen, and if I'm not mistaken doesn't then timing belt and tensioner need to be replaced right around 100K?

I replaced my timing belt at around 100k and it needed to be done about 85 k so you need to check on it to make sure. I started having problems and they said if i would have waited much longer i would have had serious problems...the whole point here is make sure the timing belt gets changed at the right time that is the most important thing in my opinion

It's good to change the water pump when you do the t-belt and tensioner. The H22's usually won't go much past 100K so I'd say around 95K change it. The belt snapped at 101K on my 5g and had to get some valves replaced. It's cheaper to change it early than to have an outrageous repair bill.

when you test drive it first turn the key to on without cranking and make sure the check engine, ABS, ATTS (if type sh), and brake light come on. If they don't then hand them the keys and walk away.

Don't buy an auto, they have a high failure rate

You'll have to be v-taking all the way.
Hey, if I had the money and someone offered to bring a car to me that's as nice as Michelle's, I'd jump all over it.

moving to the desert. 1. need some extra $ for closing costs on the house, 2. they don't really have more than 2 paved roads, going to buy a wrangler later on for all the off road oppertunities. the lude would get beat up on the gravel roads, and i hate to do that to it.
(been wanting to move for about a year, finally made the rash decision to do it, and i should be closing on the house july 31st. they move a little quicker than i thought they would...)

/offtopicness

Let me guess, you suffer from chronic allergies or you got a job at Area 51?
