Timing belt kits

I know I should just do a search but I need one post count anyway to view the stuff in the DYI section :-), so....

Has anyone used the timing belt kits they are selling on ebay?

Timing Belt Kit Honda Prelude Base & SH 1997-2001: eBay Motors (item 360296519002 end time Nov-01-10 06:04:41 PDT)

Belts, tentioner, water pump, seals, etc... for $273. Is it any good. I'd hate to buy a crappy timing belt and have it go out on me in a few thousand miles.

Re: Timing belt kits

Never bought it, but it definately has everything youll need. If your worried about quality, you could buy a gates timing belt component kit. Around 130 shipped from rock auto. Then piece the rest together. Probably similar in price and you can select the brands you want.

Re: Timing belt kits

That is one inclusive kit! I need to do my timing great find, if you use it let us know the quality and results.

Are you staying with the auto tension or going manual? This kit looks all for the auto tension.

Re: Timing belt kits

Like I said, I know nothing about Hondas (or at least anything more than what I know about cars in general)

What are the benefits of going with a manual tensioner? Where can I get one and what would need to be changed?

If I get this kit, I'll definitely give you guys some feedback on it.

When it rains it pours. This is My brother-in-law's Prelude and the timing belt went because the harmonic ballancer went and dug through the timing cover.
The following week, my mother's thermostat went on her Audi and the thermostat is behind the timing belt and now, this week, my sister's harmonic ballancer on her Subaru went and it's digging into the timing cover.

So I have three cars, that need to have the timing belts replaced and , obviously, one of them needs a new head also.

It's been a rough couple of months.

Re: Timing belt kits

On the list of things that are too important to trust to eBay craftsmanship, the timing belt is damn near at the top.

But thats just me.
